Psychic Healer with Core Rules

First Post
Hello everyone,

One of my players wants to be a healer, but she wants to play a psion. What should she do?

I'm suggesting the following powers to take:

1 - Vigour
2 - Biofeedback, Share Pain, Empathic Transfer,
3 - Body Adjustment, Body Purification, Forced Share Pain, Hostile Empathic Transfer
4 - Empathic Feedback, Psychic Reformation,
5 - Adapt Body, Psionic Revivify, Restore Extremity, Fiery Discorporation
6 - Aura Alteration, Suspend Life, Psionic Restoration
8 - Bend Reality, True Metabolism, Astral Seed
9 - Reality Revision, Timeless Body, Assimilate, Psychic Chirugery

I'm not sure how she will heal things like poison, disease, blindness, deafness, and so on; or heal damage before level 3.

Any suggestions/help?

Thanks!

Add healing and status ailment fixing cleric spells to her list as identical powers, and remove a similar number of powers if you worry about her abusing free additions to her list? She's just...not going to be a good healer, at all. She'd probably do a better job by gaining Use Magic Device as a class skill and using wands than with that setup.

EDIT: It's even easier than that, you can just make Cure a level 1 power for d8 +ML, up to +5. And then let every augmentation of 2 points add 1d8 and add +5 to the ML cap, as well as boosting the save DC by 1 (for when used on undead). Just covered the entire single target cure line. Another power for mass cure that can be augmented could also be houseruled, and so on...

Have you checked out Complete Psionic? The books is badly written, but there may be healing powers in there.

Empathic transfer does allow the psion to remove disease and poison from the target, as well as ability damage (but not drain). Blindness and deafness I dunno about...

I believe that you have a basically good list, the problem with psionic healing is that if it's your focus as a psion, you're going to need all your points to do it effectively, meaning that you'll be unable to function as well in most other situations. I'd think that a psion healer would be a better cohort than pc.

Although, if you let her use Book of Exalted Deeds as well, maybe taking the (IMO) somewhat broken Vow of Poverty might be a plan. Or the non-violent one, Vow of Peace maybe? Don't have the books in front of me but it might be possible to cobble together something that would be functionally effective as well as less of a target to enemies so that she'd be able to use her healing mostly on others.

It actually sounds like an interesting idea. If it gets into play, post a note on how it's working in a few weeks (or months maybe). :)

VoP is not broken; it is infact underpowered. I shall explain this to you should it be necessary, but you are advised to create your own thread about it.

Hm. Then is it actually viable to have a Psion as a healer? If not, are there any other psionic classes that could fulfill the Cleric role?

Not in core, which I thought was what you had to work with. C.Psi has some additional healing powers and I think at least one of the classes can heal about as good as a Cleric that took a level in Fighter every other level up. If you really want a healer, you really can't beat a cleric or druid, and even bard with wands is probably a better choice.

But that's by RAW. It's not that hard to just make healing spells into powers if you were inclined to do so. I really don't think it'd be that broken, healing isn't exactly a glamorous role to fill anyway.
