First Post
Not wanting to sound stupid to my players on tomorrow's session, I want to know how to pronounce Couatl and Ghaele.

"Rhymes with" is appreciated. (Ex. Ioun: Rhymes with My Moon.)

Couatl - Koo-ah-dil - say it fast and it sounds best

Doesn't really sound like anything, but it is definitely Aztec or from that region of central mexico. Prolly came from Quetzalcouatl, a famous god of the Aztec people.

No idea for Ghaele - I'd say "Gail" like the name

How I say them:

Ghaele - Ghai (rhymes with "guy") + El (rhymes with "bell",but slightly longer vowel sound)

Couatl - Coo (rhymes with "too) + ahtl (rhymes with "part", with an "l" tacked on)

I always pronounced them like so:

Couatl = ko-AT-ull

Ghaele = Gay-lay

Ioun = ee-own (rhymes with "she-town")

K'wattle (a as in waddle)

Yep.

Unfortunately, "ghaele" looks like it might be Gaelic, which means it could easily be pronounced "kitchy-coo." Just say it however you want, and you'll have as good a chance at being right as any of the rest of us.

Couatl: Coo (the sound a bird makes) - ot ("hot" without the h) - L (the L sound rather than the letter name). Or as put together above, K'wattle.

Ghaele: Gay-Lee. Your friend Lee, who is homosexual.

How does ahtl rhyme with part? There's no "r" in "ahtl"?

Or is that how y'all say it up there in Philly :) ?
