Price of Blindsight Item?

I've found a helm that grants blindsight in a 5-ft radius from a 3rd party sourcebook. The caster level is 11 and the price is 8,000 gp.

Does that price sound about right?

There's a blindfold in the Arms & Equipment Guide that provides blindsight in a 60-ft radius (!!!) for 9,000 gp.

Based on the capabilites of blindsight, do these prices seem low/high?

The first seems about right. The second is obviously way too cheap.

A by-the-book item (i.e. headband) with a continuous 30' Blindsight would cost 24,000 gp.

Seems a little on the low side.

The "standard" price for feats is 10k. Blindsight 5' is obviously much better than Blindfighting.

15k-18k sounds reasonable. Just shy of a Ring of Invisibility.

24k for 30' blindsight is ridiculously low IMNSHO.

That blindfold item isn't as great as it may seem at first. Blindsight out to 60 feet is good but anything beyond that range is effectively invisible because your vision is blocked by the blindfold. That said, I still think it could be a lot more expensive since all you need to do is keep it off until the big melee starts.

is there any way for a human to get Blindsight with out a spell or magic item?

feat, templete, class feature, psionics?

just curious cause I have a blind NPC that I want to give blidnsight to but I dont want to be cheesy and just say he has it, I would like to have a good explanation incase the rules lawyer in the group objects and causes a stink.

I dont want to make it an item because I dont want the players getting their hands on such a valuable item.

Spell doesnt work because he isnt a caster, I may make him a psionic warrior (hense the psionic question) but I wouldnt mind having some alternative suggestions.

Sorry if this is off topic.

Good point.

Putting it on and taking it off would be just a move action. Not much trouble at all. The obvious tactic would be throw a Fog Cloud Potion (or use an item of that ilk) and put the blindfold on. Very easy. Very nasty.

Blindsight could be a reasonable feat with the prerequisite of Blindfighting and actually being permenantly blind. If the blindness is cured, he loses the Blindsight.

The cost of two feats and the blindness prereq is sufficient that powergamers will discouraged from taking it. If you need steeper costs still toss in more prereqs like 5 ranks Concentraion, 5 ranks Spot, 5 ranks Listen, etc.

How exactly is a blind man going to develop the skill to spot things?
