Pregen Character Sheet for Level 1 Elf Rogue

First Post
Hey all!

I ran a 4th edition playtest last night, using the D&DXP pregen characters and various monster stats that have been posted on this forum. It helped that I'd actually gone to D&DXP and played the preview adventures, so I had a sense of the flow and pacing of 4th edition (and I was even able to include a Skill Challenge in the adventure).

Since I had 7 PCs, but there are only 6 pregenerated characters, I created a 1st level elf rogue using the information in the two Ampersand articles (one about rogues, one about elves) and various bits of mechanical reverse-engineering found on these forums. All of the abilities come from official sources except the rogue's Daily Power; the only one on Wizards' site was a Rogue Attack 9 Daily Power, so I reduced its power somewhat and made it into the Rogue Attack 1 Daily Power called "Easy Target" (no idea if this is what Easy Target actually does). Also, the Hand Crossbow's stats are a guess.

This rogue uses the Brutal Scoundrel build. The player who played the rogue (who was also at D&DXP) reported after the playtest that the rogue was fun to play, very up-close and bloody.

So, here's a PDF of Varis Darkstrider, Level 1 Elf Rogue! Enjoy!

(Edit: Increased damage on the daily to 3W, and fixed text on the daily that said "Encounter". Also fixed dagger prof to be +3, and basic melee attacks to be keyed off Str instead of Dex.)

Looks great!

The daily might be 3d6 rather than 2d6 based on the other dailys that target a single creature. Dwarf is definitely doing [3W] the other ones are magicy... but each doing 3d8...
Wizard is obviously different, and ranger is actually getting [2W]X2 but on separate creatures.
Very nice sheet tho.

I actually went back and forth on this, and the version that we ran actually used 3d6 (and since the character had combat advantage already when he used his daily, it was a TON of damage). But because the 9th-level power I based it on was 2W + ongoing + advantage, I figured the 1st-level daily should just be 2W + advantage. 3W + advantage isn't super overpowered, though... If you want to run it that way, I say go for it.

If you want to run it as 3W, I'll attach an alternate version to make things easier.

Edit: I've decided to go back to 3W; comparing to the other pregen characters' daily powers and the rogue's other abilities, 3W seems about on par. New version in the first post of this topic.

Cool. Looks quite a bit like the one I made (reverse Int & Cha) only better formatted.

I went with triple damage.

You still have Encounter listed in your daily though.

Also, I read somewhere that dagger proficiency started as a +3, so I thought that the rogue would wind up with +8. I don't really agree with that, though and I like yours better.

This is correct by knowlage as well.

Good job by the way! When I testrun 4e, I will be using this pregen character as well.

Thanks for the praise!

I put up a new version with "Daily" instead of encounter. I've decided to stick with triple weapon damage as well, since it was my initial instinct and other people seem to share that opinion.

Where have you seen the dagger prof as being +3? If you can provide a reference, I'll modify the sheet.

It is pretty clear from the DDXP pregens (I think the wizard, warlock, and cleric, specifically) that a dagger grants a +3 attack bonus to proficient characters.

And the basic attack with the shortsword would be +4 (+2 Str +2 prof), while the dagger would be +6 (+8 thrown). Basic melee attacks are still keyed off Str, and basic ranged attacks off Dex; only the rogue melee powers are off Dex. So the damage values would also be altered for the shortsword and dagger.

Otherwise, very cool.

Makes sense. I thought the basic melee attacks were a bit too good. I'll put up a new version.
