D&D 5E Predictions, what stats do you think Leonin will have?

Legend
We know they are more Strength based then Tabaxi, who are more burst speed and agility based.

I think the only common trait will be claws, but Leonin will not be able to use them for a climb speed. Oh maybe Darkvision too.

I think somekind of pounce or ambush trait. And maybe that size trait that Goliaths, Firbolgs, and Bugbears have, that allows them to carry more.

Heck maybe Leonin will be a blend of Tabaxi and Bugbear inspired elements, like a middle ground.

A claw attack is a given. Some kind of pounce attack makes sense as well, maybe they could make a claw attack as a bonus action immediately after making a running jump or something. Scimitar proficiency seems like a no-brainer, maybe along with shortsword, spear, and... I don’t know, net? For ability scores I would bet on +2 Dex +1 Wis if that wasn’t already Tabaxi... +2 Str +1 Dex could be kind of interesting, though it would feel weird for them not to have a bump to Wisdom, so maybe it’ll be +2 Str +1 Wis.

Well, we know they are stronger than tabbies, so they must get +1 or +2 str. Almost certainly +1 or +0 dex. They may get +1 to cha, wis, or con. +2 str/+1 dex would be the most different.

Claw attack with pounce ability sounds reasonable.

I envision them having +1 to Wis, and +2 to Strength, with a Natural Weapon (Claw) attack, and, perhaps, a feature like "Leonin Bravery" or something, which would grant them resistance to effects which induce fear, and possibly resistance to the charmed condition.

Given that they generally fall under White mana in M:TG, I expect them to have features which will make them effective Clerics, or, possibly, effective Paladins. I find the Wisdom increase more feasible, though.

White mana sometimes symbolizes order, like that of a legion, so, perhaps the Leonin will have some ability like Pack Tactics.

It occurs to me that it could be as simple as giving them +2 Strength and +1 Wisdom and the exact same features as Lions in 5e.

That means:

Keen Smell. The Leonin has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.

Pack Tactics. The Leonin has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the lion's allies is within 5 ft. of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

Pounce. If the Leonin moves at least 20 ft. straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the Leonin can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.

Running Leap. With a 10-foot running start, the Leonins can long jump up to 25 ft..

Claws attack and maybe a bite attack.

That would fit both white mana (pack tactic very orderly community based) and lion themes and make them very distinct from Tabaxi. Maybe pounce optional works with weapons.

That would make them Strength based Rangers, good Clerics, Druids, Strength based Monks, Fighters, Strength Rogue, Paladins, and Barbarians.

They are "white" in MtG, which would make them healing and buffing (AKA cleric) types. So +2 str +1 wis seems to work (even if it is the same as firbolgs).

Divine magic and healing/buffing effects are certainly part of white’s identity, but there’s far more to white than that, and that aspect isn’t really strongly tied to the Leonin. White is also the color of militarism (which translates to the game as having many small, cheap creatures you can overwhelm your opponents with) and one of the colors with the most equipment support, which are both more in the Leonin’s wheelhouse than divine magic.

I do think +2 Strength +1 Wisdom is likely to be their ability spread though.

White mana sometimes symbolizes order, like that of a legion, so, perhaps the Leonin will have some ability like Pack Tactics.
That seems unlikely to me given that the Leonin on Theros are isolated to small tribes and rely more on ambush tactics.
