Poisons in core: where do they come from?

Beholder Bob

First Post
Looking at the core poisons and noted that, while I can identify the origin of some, there are several I have no idea what they are (besides a poison) - I mean, are they mineral, animal, plant, or alchemical?

Here are the poisons in question:
BLUE WHINNIS
BURNT OTHUR FUMES
INSANITY MIST
UNGOL DUST
OIL OF TAGGIT
Nitharit
Lich dust (for 250 gp/dose, it can not be real lich dust, can it?)
Dark reaver powder
Greenblood oil

Here ya go

BLUE WHINNIS - Concentrated whinnis root extract
BURNT OTHUR FUMES - Heated othur paste.
INSANITY MIST - Vaporized aboleth mucus
UNGOL DUST - Alkalized ungol crystals
OIL OF TAGGIT - Steeped taggit root
Nitharit - Dehydrated nitharit moss
Lich dust - Acidified lich remains
Dark reaver powder - Pulverized reaver bone
Greenblood oil - Pressed rogue vine

I reccomend Poisoncraft: The Dark Art, availible from Blue Devil Games for a HUGE amount of information on poison. It's 8 bucks at RPGNow.

Are the sources from above from a core source, or did Blue Devil Games make it from whole cloth? I have no problem with creating a source where none existed before, but I was wondering about the origin.

Some are pretty obvious (Lich dust), while others are conjecture (oils come from plants for instance).

I do think one of them is most certainly wrong, though.

Ungol Dust

Given its fantasy roots, I think it's safe to say that the word Ungol is stolen from Tolkien. It's original definition (I believe it is Sindarin in origin, but may be Quenya) was Gloom, but in later years, due to one famous individual, known as Ungoliant (Gloomweaver), it became synonomous with Spider (Cirith Ungol for instance translates as Spider Pass). Therefore I would have to say that it is either dried and crushed spider, or possible a concoction made of spider silk, and therefore organic.

Man, I'm a loser. I didn't have to look any of that up...
