Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot and Spells

Gregor

First Post
Hey there,

I am sure this has been asked countless times before, so please forgive me :\

Do the feats Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot apply to spells that require ranged touch attacks (e.g. rays)? I seem to recall this being the case, but I need to know for sure.

I am currently playing a 5th level Elven Wizard and I just took a level in Fighter, in hopes of moving towards Eldritch Knight. I chose the feats Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot to help me at my archery, but I wondered if it had the added benefit of improving my rays and other ranged touch attach spells.

My thanks for any and all assistance!

Cheers,

they apply to any and all ranged attack rolls. Ranged touch included.
No, they don't. They apply to attack rolls (and damage rolls for PBS) with ranged weapons. It's a significant difference. Now, the real meat of the debate becomes, "Are spells such as 'effect: ray' spells ranged weapons?" Complete Arcane (and the Tome book in 3.0) say yes. Most people will in fact say yes, but there are a few detractors. You definitely get them with wands, however, since wands are clearly denoted as weapon-like.

The weapon focus feat specifies that "ray" is a weapon. I agree with other posters, definitely allowed to take Weapon feats and Ranged feats.
