Play By Mail Games

Just a question, I am wondering if anyone here has heard of / played / is playing a PBM (Play By Mail) Game? If you have, wich one? If you have played many different ones, which one is your favorite and wich one is the cheapest you know of?

I was just wondering if RSI (Reality Simulations Inc.) is a good company to play with or if they are more expensive then other ones.

I am totally new to PBMs and would like to know more about them. If you can answer one of my many many questions, or just fill me in about them, please post here and share your knowledge:\

Thank You Very Much

A friend and I tried Hyborian War many, many years ago (playing the country of Turan) and just couldn't get into it. We played about three turns and called it.

I played a couple of turns of Tribes of Crane awhile after than. Same result.

I just don't think I have the patience to wait for a game turn to take months to resolve.

Wouldn't you prefer to play a PBEM (play by email) game instead? It's much faster (although still odiously slow compared to a game around the table).

I run a Robotech PBEM game which is going on 5 months now. I totally consider it a success since most PBeM games die within 2 months. I've got 5 players and it works great. My suggestion is to check out www.pbem.com (which someone already suggested), why pay to play?

I played Hyborian War for years and it can be lots of fun. The thing that kept me going with it was the websites dedicated to the game. The one I frequented had games were the webmaster got ALL players together and opened one game with RSI with all of us. He has stopped doing this. Those Organized games were much better. I can not remember the URL or even the name of the site right now. But the games are much more fun if you can find a community that is involved with the games.

I like the sounds of Hyborian War. I have got the setup sheet and filled it out and I am pretty sure I am going to try it out. I personaly prefer the sound of pbm's to pbem's, but I think I am going to start a pbem called Gondor. I have registered to the Gondor site and the next game starts on July 15th I think it was.

If I am going to play Hyborian War, I still have to send in the sheet and get the rules and setup, but I have it all filled out. I have Khorja as my 1st choice, Juma's Kingdom as my second, and Amazonia as my third choice. All are small kingdoms to keep the price down so if I don't like it, it didn't cost me as much as it could have. What do you people who have played Hyborian War think about Kingdom Maintenance? Did it help a lot, or was it more of a pain and it runed all your plans?

Could some of you more experienced people out there tell me if it is a hussle to play a pbm and a pbem at the same time? Do you get them mixed up and confused:confused: or is it easy to keep the plans and information separate?

This is my first time doing a pbm or a pbem so I have a lot to learn about them. If I have the time, I will go to the sites suggested. I think I have been to pbem.com, isn't it the one with the huuuuuuge long list of pbm's and pbem's?

Anyways, keep the posts coming, they have been really helpfull. Thanks:)

P.S. Sorry this rambled on and on.

Try adventurer's guild at http://www.epmgames.com . It's like Duelmasters, but you can do a heck of a lot more stuff.

I just looked at the site, and I don't think I will. It costs a bit more than I was looking for. If I am going to play a pbem, I want it ethier real cheap or free. It sounds really nice, but I don't think so. sorry

Ok, I just looked at pbem.com, and I was thinking of the wrong one. I have never been to pbem.com, I was mistaken. I like this site a lot, I can't find any pbm's, but I like most of the pbem's that I am finding. The only problem, is that I am finding too many that I like, and I may get them mixed up, or is that no problem, I am waiting for an answer to that question.;)
