The movie looks good. The book I did not care for because of the writing style. I'm hoping the moview doesn't have that problem.

Much of the script was lacking and the movie didn't seem to be able to decide if it was a kids' flick or a movie for adults and kids. Some of the sexual innuendo was as unclever as I have ever seen on screen (and there's probably too much of it for a kids' flick). The effects were nothing new, really, but it had its moments in that regard (
the Fury was good but the Minotaur kinda MMORPGiesque, the satyr and centaurs were awkwardly staged, the Medusa's bits had some good moments, some of the Underworld segments were intriguing, the Hydra was not bad at all, etc.
). The fight sequences were uniformly weak with moves that were severely telegraphed. Percy's general mythology knowledge is lousy on things most people know and then surprising on some things that a lot of folks would not, IME. I paid five bucks for an early show and thalmin and I agreed it was a decent five buck movie, worth seeing on the big screen for the effects, IMO. I doubt it will make its budget back at the box office and also doubt a sequel will be warranted. Stay through the credits.

I hope the Wolfman remake is a bit better.

I was entertained. The theater was packed with pre-teens and teens (though mostly pre-teens). We went with 5 14 year olds and a 12 year old. They were entertained, though of course were bothered by some of the changes. These boys were uniformly disappointed with Eragon, but seemed to enjoy last night.

I had not read the books. I didn't have any issues with the satyr or centaur.

They did NOT spend much time on making the actors great swordspeople, by any stretch of the imagination. That was weak, I thought.

The CGI in the parthenon was excellent, or maybe just so overwhelming that I didn't notice any issues.

Entertaining, hardly deep or super great acting....

It was all right. Forgettable I suppose. Very few YA novel-to-films (Lemony Snicket, His Dark Materials) seem to survive beyond the first installment and I don't think this will see another instalment.

What were the changes from the book?
