Nagi the Stormrider

Background
Early August, 1945, high over the Island of Honshu, Japan – the first bomb of legend falls on the unsuspecting city of Hiroshima. Not far away, Nagisa, a timid and mysterious orphan child found wandering alone in the nearby forest several years previously, serves as a miko (shrine maiden) in a Shinto temple dedicated to the nature spirits of Japan. Hiroshima is devastated by the legendary bomb and the spirits of nature shudder, sending forth a spiritual shockwave that spreads across all of Japan. Nagisa is found collapsed in the inner sanctum by the head priest and taken to her room to be cared for.

For three days, Nagisa remains in a deep, but troubled sleep, and then...the second bomb of legend falls, devastating the city of Nagasaki on the island Kyushu. The spirits of nature cry out and send forth a second, far more powerful spiritual shockwave across Japan. This second, much more powerful, shockwave trigged the mystical forces sealed away inside the body of Nagisa and reawakened her true nature - she was no longer the timid little miko Nagisa, she was now Nagi the Stormrider...and she was angry at the devastation that nature had suffered.

The emperor surrendered Japan, and although angry, Nagi realized that the damage was already done; there was nothing positive to be gained by seeking vengeance against the occupying forces, especially after she found out that the leaders of Japan had initiated the conflict with America in the first place. Instead, she chose a different path – the path of a heroine. Although her abilities focused only upon unleashing destruction, her goodly nature drove her instead to do what she could to help those people in need while Japan was rebuilding. Others were not so willing to forgive and forget the devastation that was dropped onto Japan – notably the first Crimson Katana, who killed the American heroes Human Tank and Gunner before mysteriously dying himself, and Hiroshima’s Shadow, a vengeful being composed of radiation.

Nagi helped the people of Japan until they were able to get back up onto their own feet, and then she retreated to solitude in the clouds above Japan where she used her mystical abilities to create her personal aerie, a cloud temple as it were, and went into seclusion for nearly six decades. Recently, her cloud temple has mysteriously appeared over the [Campaign City] area, but her intentions aren’t yet know. Possibly she has decided to enter the modern world again – a world that has changed so much over the decades that she was in seclusion.

SPYDER

David Johnson was born to fairly mundane parents in <base city where we are starting> on a cold January morning, twenty-two years ago at Mercy General. His father was a social worker for the state and his mother a lawyer for Smith and Bracken, a minor law firm, yet one of the most predominate pro-bono firms in the city. They instilled in him a strong sense of right and wrong, of justice for the 'little guy', and of doing the right thing whenever he could.

David was normal looking and happy for the first 18 years of his life, until one terrible night… David had just started college at Midtown Community College, and got a night job as a local convenient store to help pay for school. The two kids who came to rob the store that night were hopped up on "Mega" a designer drug that gave them the sense that they were superhuman backed up with some temporary minor powers. They smashed the cash register and were in the process of smashing David's face into the ground when his meta-mutant gene activated and he threw them off of him as if they were rage dolls.

Seeing his reflecting in the mirror, David panic and fled… thinking he was a monster. It took him a long time to come to terms with what he has become, but he ran with a number of street mutants who hide from the rest of normal society for a while. Most of them hated 'normals', but one, a young woman who called herself 'Night Rose' taught him to be better then that. She saw beauty in the world around her and made him see it to. They eventually became lovers and David was happy for the first time in a very long time.

Recently, Rose has left the city to seek out her parents. David wanted to go with her, but she explained that it was something that she had to do herself. She promised that she would return as soon as she could, and make David promise that he would "not go back into hiding from the rest of the world. That you will instead seek it out and embrace it. Live, and be happy"

David re-applied and was accepted back into Midtown Community College, taking some computer and history classes. He is struggling to be more open and to try and talk with people, determined to live up to the promise he made to Rose.

David has always had a very strong sense of justice, especially when it comes to protecting innocent people against those who would take advantage of them or seek to hurt them simply because they have the power to do so. He is determined to live up to the ideals of heroism that Rose helped him rediscover in himself.

Ghost

Name: Ghost

Real Name: Elisa Cameron (Secret Identity)
Occupation: Reporter
Status: deceased

Known Powers: Incorporeal, Invisibility, Flight

Weapons: Twin .45 Automatic Pistols

Description: Elisa Cameron is a beautiful woman in her late twenties. She is 5'8" tall and weighs 120 lbs. Elisa has shoulder-long black hair and blue eyes. Her lithe body is wrapped in a tight-fitting, white costume, which covers her legs and part of her upper body, showing off quite a bit of cleavage with a very low cut. Her costume is designed to make men nervous and it certainly achieves this, when an attractive woman like Elisa is wearing it. Neck, shoulders and most of her back are left bare, but are usually covered by a scarf and a wide hooded cloak. In addition, she wears high-healed boots and she carries a pair of .45 automatic pistols and a few spare magazines on two crossed belts around her hips. All of the same white color, except for the guns, which are black.

Background:
Elisa Cameron is a Ghost - a real Ghost. Elisa Cameron is dead. At least, that is what she thinks. It's the only explanation. There are a few open questions, however. She still has to sleep, which is odd, considering, that she is dead, and she can be wounded and bleeds like a living person.
She was born in a flash of fire, probably a gunshot, knowing her. She found herself floating somewhere in the woman's restroom at an uptown club called Go Go Go, with no memory and no clothes. After she scared the crap out of the next patron, she discovered, that she had to concentrate to touch anything. It took a while before she learned to control her power of incorporeality, her power to 'ghost'. She learned to fade from vision and to affect the physical world. It takes some concentration to become solid, but she can also affect the physical world while she stays incorporeal, when she concentrates hard enough. When her concentration slips however, she desolidifies. After the first time she fall asleep, she woke up a hundred feet down below the floor. It was like being buried alive. There is one material, she cannot pass through, jade. Ghost discovered this by chance in a chinese import store by chance. She now resides in a crypt on the local cemetery, a quite fitting place for a ghost, with a floor and a large chair made of jade, where she can rest undisturbed.
But Elisa also has another gift. She can jump space by traveling through an alternate dimension, her hell, which exists only in her mind. The time spent in this dimension does not affect the real world, and Elisa can reemerge from that place at a different location, as long as she is very familiar with the place or could see it, when she began to jump. It's quite an unpleasant experience, because this dimension is home of a demon who calls himself Nemo and who only feels deep hatred for her. Normally, it's not dangerous, but Elisa uses this ability only in the most dire circumstances. It's never good to tamper with your inner demons.
She quickly discovered, that there is one thing in the world, which she cannot stand, that is men. When she encountered a man who was bullying around a woman, an irresistible hatred grew within her and she attacked and killed him. This happened quite a few times, while she was on a rampage tour through the local crime scene to uncover the mystery of her own death. It became clear to her, that she would need a purpose in her 'afterlife', if she wouldn't want to go insane, and so she took on the role of a sentinel, trying to protect the weak, those who cannot defend themselves, whenever she can.

The truth, however, is a little different...
Elisa Cameron is not dead!

Elisa was born Elisa Deerlane and adopted together with her sister Margo by Earl Cameron at the age of three. She grew up as Elisa Cameron and has no conscious memory of her real father, who is long dead. Her step-father and her mother were killed later, while someone tried to lock up her past. Elisa was born with the ability to jump space or transport herself instantly from one place on earth to another by entering another dimension and then returning to the real world in a different spot. Time passes differently in this other dimension, and a week or a month spent there amounts to no time in the real world. She wasn't gone at all, Elisa's disappearance from one spot and reappearance elsewhere seem to happen instantaneously. When Elisa was a child, the demon Nemo, whose home her alternate dimension is, was her secret playmate, but over time she rejected his 'love' and it slowly turned into pure hate. His dimension mirrored the emotional change and turned into a literal hell, populated with monsters and demons under Nemo's control.
While she kept her powers secret, eventually they were discovered by a secret all-female paranormal strike force, called the Furies. They recruited Elisa and under the cover of journalism, she was studying journalism at that time, she was using her power to jump space to turn into a formidable operative, until the demon, Cameron Nemo, turned the alternate dimension into her personal hell. She refused to use it since then and a powerful psychic from her team sealed the entrance in her mind. In exchange she had to use an experimental substance called 'The Agent', synthesized from the tendered spirit essence of the dead. This substance gives the user the temporary ability to 'ghost' - walk through walls, float, fly at moderate speeds, become invisible and/or intangible at will. Because of the own superpowers, somehow the ghosting effect was made permanent and further enhanced, allowing her to expand most of these abilities upon others, allowing her to temporarily dematerialize objects and people.
Later she infiltrated the cult of a powerful psychic named Archibald Scythe, but she was no match for the man, who had ultimate control over women via pheromones and psychic abilities. He planted the belief in her mind, that her powers were useless against the substance jade in order to give her a weakness which he could exploit. He used her as a private assassin. Elisa again used her journalism background as a cover. Eventually, things turned out bad and Elisa was to face certain death. Nemo used Elisa's near death to bridge the gap to the real world. His presence broke Elisa's psychic block and she instinctively jumped space to escape, allowing the demon to enter this world, but he was later trapped back into his dimension again.
Elisa, naked and alone, her memories fragmented by numerous overlapping psychic suggestions and commands, disappeared for several weeks, possibly lost in Nemo's dimension. Eventually she was found by the Furies, barely aware of her surroundings and in very poor control of her ghosting abilities. Now of little use to the Furies, once again false memories were implanted, making Elisa believe, that she was murdered by organized crime and setting her loose against the world. Filled with an uncontrollable rage against men, fueled by her clashes with Nemo and Scythe, she rampaged through the night and killed numerous criminals, all male, of course, trying to uncover the mysteries of her death. Unfortunately, she often killed witnesses and therefore any clues before they could talk. She also met Scythe again, together with her sister Margo she fell under his control again, but somehow Margo was able to break free and killed him - and herself - by summoning powerful spirits from her own tears, her very own power she was born with and which noone suspected until then.
Elisa, however, was free again. Over time, she discovered, that this couldn't go on forever, with everything around her dying or being dead, and she started looking for a purpose, a destination. Drawing upon her more likeable qualities and slowly regaining her willpower, she became a sentinel, a protector. This is what she is now, still filled with her irrational hatred, which sometimes gets in the way, she tries to make a difference by granting the weak her protection against those seeking to exploit them.

Note: This character has been built with the original Ghost character from the Dark Horse comic book in mind. Some details, especially concerning her background and origin have been altered to fit the campaign, however. So this is not the actual Elisa Cameron, just a very similar character.

Physical description: 20 Year old asian-american man, with black hair.

Personality:
Jason tries to be as serious and honorable as his grandfather/sensei. Unfortunately, he is only human and sometimes uses his powers to make thing easier, or for fun. Cleaning goes fast in the Nagano home. Anyhow, he still takes his "hero job" seriously. Mostly.

History and origin:
Jason Nagano is the grandson of an elderly japanese sensei who fled to America somewhere WWII (something he doesn't talk about much). This little tidbit would be rather insignificant if young Jason hadn't turned out to gain an almost unshakeable strength of will in his teens. The strong willed teen - who could even make things move by willing them to - might have become a powerful villain if his grandfather hadn't acted and started teaching Jason the virtues of a super hero.

Some years later, Jason is trying to grow into the role of a super hero and combine that with his actual life as a college student, all while keeping his hero identity secret from everyone but grandfather.

People:

Grandfather:
Koto Nagano - Jason's grandfather - came to the US from Japan sometime during WWII. The details of that are something grandfather clearly doesn't wish to talk about. He taught Jason how to control his powers, but also taught him the virtues of heroism rather than villainy. Due to grandfather's strong will, Jason strongly suspects that he might have been a japanese superhero (which the americans of that time might see as a villain) in his younger days.

Parents:
The only notable thing to say about Peter and Mary Nagano is that any "strong will genes" that Jason might have gotten from grandfather certainly skipped a generation. Peter seems a perfectly normal office worker in his fourties, married to the girl from the office next door, living a decent life in a nice house with a picket fence, and having fathered a super hero - wait, that's not average! But Peter and Mary don't know about that last thing anyway.

Description:
Doctor S-3 is a strikingly beautiful young woman with long blonde hair (most often put up) and sparkling, blue eyes. She wears a pair of lightly colored lab glasses and a stiff-looking lab coat bound tightly around her body. Underneath, she wears a form-fitting catsuit that provides total freedom of movement. Around her waist is a belt filled with small, readily assessable compartments and there hangs a futuristic looking chrome dart gun.

Personality:
Almost anyone talking to her would think that she’s confident and quite sure of herself, although without an air of arrogance. She is friendly and talkative, except to attractive young males to whom she tends to be shy. She’s fascinated by all sorts of topics but becomes totaling engrossed when it comes to science and technology discussions.

Background:
Sarah Suzanne Scionne was born as the prodigal only child to Mathias and Judith Scionne, both renowned professors at the prestigious Drew Howard University. Sarah, at an early age, was identified to be gifted both physically and mentally and was pushed to the limit. She followed the teachings of her parents and mentors to develop her abilities in every field. By the time she was fourteen, Sarah was an accomplished gymnast, bi-athlete, tri-athlete and college graduate. By fifteen, she was a star nano-technology researcher at Drew Howard University, working under Professor Graham—an acclaimed pioneer in the field.

Professor Graham’s theories and research had always been controversial. While his many successes had brought acclaim, it was still hard to find funding for his more questionable ideas. This was especially true of Sarah’s project, which focused on using nano-technology to augment materials and even human beings.

One night as Sarah was working late in Professor Graham’s laboratory, two of Crime King—the notorious underworld figure of the city—bust into the building and demanded to see Graham and the delivery of the super-warrior formula. Graham had already left earlier that evening; and, of course, as Sarah knew nothing of this, she insisted that they leave immediately. The thugs began to demolish the laboratory and continued to make threats. Something then ignited and the whole laboratory caught on fire. Sarah was trapped inside as the thugs fled to safety. Seeing her work go up in flames, Sarah decided to save it in the only way she knew how. She poured the nanobots over her lab coat, instructed them to molecularly enhance the fibers of her lab coat and fled through the flames.

Later that night, she went to confront Professor Graham about what happened. However, she was too late and only found his and his family’s corpses inside. By now, she had figured out what was going on. Although she was resentful for what the Professor had done in negotiating a deal with the likes of Crime King, she also knew that he was a decent man at heart.

The laboratory was destroyed, but at least she had some part of her research at her apartment. Knowing that the syndicate of the Crime King would come after her as well in they thought she was alive, she fled with remnants of her research. She now knew how best to help the world as her parents and mentors had wanted. She would take up the mantle of a superheroine and fight crime in the most direct way possible.

Real Name: Stanley Armstrong
Height: 6'1" Weight: 325 lbs.
Hair: Brown Eyes: Hazel

Background:
Stanley was born a second-generation superhero. He inherited much of his strength from his father Jack "The Hunk" Armstrong. Stanley grew up resenting the "Big dumb jock" image that his father played up, and vowed to use his gifts differently. He wanted people to respect him for his brain as well as his brawn. Growing up super-powered though offered Stanley a lot of insight on how and when to use his strength. He also benefitted from a lot of 'hands-on' training from his dad's friends and allies. As the superhero Strongarm he has developed a fighting style he has dubbed "Strongarm Tactics" which he uses to great effectiveness.

Personality:
Stanley knows he isn't the strongest guy on the block or the toughest, but he might consider himself the smartest strong guy out there.
While naturally gifted, Stanley really hasn't pursued any true intellectual endevours. However he is very well-read and possesses a eclectic knowledge that has enabled him to at least converse about most subjects.
