Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder - Cool or Interesting Monsters

Maybe it is too early for that since the Pathfinder Bestiary isn't out yet and Pathfinder isn't that old yet, either, but:

What cool or interesting monsters does Pathfinder have?
What might replace iconic monsters like the D&D Beholder or Mind Flayer (unfortunately, they are as far as I know not part of the SRD.)

Any cool monster with a unique backstory that made its name in one of the adventure paths? Or that played a prominent role in the background fluff so far? What new, unique Pathfinder monsters exist?

Or are the cool monsters only found in re-envisioning existing monsters (like Goblins) and putting a new spin on them? Do you expect to see new iconic creatures to come up? Do you expect Paizo sneaking in the "forbidden" ones under a name and with a few artistic modifications?

Excellent question! I'd also like to know what percentage of the monsters are reworked ones from the SRD vs. original creations. If all of the monsters from the SRD are included, as I expect they would be, there's probably not a whole lot of space for new monsters.

My understanding is that the "house label" is that whenever you are inclined to put in a mind flayer, you see if an intellect devourer would work instead. Indeed, I think most of the Pf designers prefer the intellect devourer.

Legacy of Fire had the Chupracabra, does that count?

Having seen the bonus bestiary's list of "official" bestiary monsters, I'm particularly stoked about some of the mythic monsters (cyclopes) and modern classics (shuggoths!) that are filling in the ranks. I'm sure a few IP beasties will make it into some stuff with different names and coats of paint (didn't they get the license to the ORIGINAL displacer beast?)

Personally, I want more mythic beasties like banshees, redcaps, etc.

Legacy of Fire introduces new breed of demonic creature, Div.
The planar book and, to some extent, Legacy of Fire, adds prometheans, three races of chaotic creatures, who, while striving toward end of ordered part of creation, are often very well organized and cultured (yes, their society appears to somewhat anarchic, however their actual behavior and culture proves otherwise).

We did indeed stat up the coeurl in Pathfinder #22, which was the monster from A. E. Van Vogt's "Black Destoryer" story back in the '50s that inspired the creation of the displacer beast. We don't have the rights to much more with it than print it the one time in Pathfinder, though... it's one of two not-open-content monsters we've done in Pathfinder, in fact. So it won't be showing up in any Bestiary anytime soon. (Same goes for the Deep Crow that Penny Arcade let us stat up in Pathfinder #16).

I'd argue the Lamia Matriarch, from Pathrinder #2 is pretty sweet. I really like them better than, say, a marilith (which I've never come up against, as games don't go epic 'round here (unfortunately)).
