Paladins of Selune (CG)?

Hey all,

One of my players wants to play a Paladin of Selune, since they have an Order (Order of the Crescent Blade) mentioned in the new Champions of Valor.

I thought Sune was the only CG deity to allow paladins. Has this changed?

I don't know if there's anything canon about it...but that's the great thing about D&D

I personally have one playing in my game, though my Faerun has undergone some rather drastic changes in the past few years...there's an open holy war between Selune and Shar, etc.

Lots of fun, and IMO it does make sense for Selune to have paladins...she's the first benevolent/good diety.

From memory you are right about Sune and Selune. I don't have CoV, but is the Order an order of paladins? that may state something about Selune getting paladins. check the obvious (3.5 players guide/3.0 FRCS) and see or better yet ask the player to show it to you if the player is stating a rule (and not merely asking "Can I please?").

There was a CG paladin called (i think) Paladin of Freedom in Unearthed Arcana (wotc), that may be what the player is after (basically the lawful gets changed to chaotic). i don't think there is any playability problems with it (haven't played with/as one myself) but it may not fit your style.

and DM's fiat, if you are okay with it, allow it (but i would also allow something on evil's side to compensate for it)

AFAIK a Paladin does not need to have a LG patron deity, or a one-step-far. Does the FR setting impose a limitation to Paladins similar to that of a Cleric?

The top Elf god (Corellian Lothlorian ?sp?) also allows Paladins in FR.

the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting entry for Paladin addresses which gods Paladins are allowed to worship as well as multiclassing restrictions. If I remember correctly, Sune is one of those gods, despite her CG alignment (In FR, all paladins are still LG). As an alternative, you can use the Paladin Variants from Unearthed Arcana.
