[OT] X-Files spinoffs *other* than "The Lone Gunmen".

Anybody heard anything positive about Millenium? I understand it's an X-Files spinoff based on an episode of the same title from the end of the 7th season. Seen it? If so, what did you think? And most importantly, is it still on and/or available on tape or DVD anywhere if you do think it's worth th' time?

Salutations,

As someone who really dislikes X-files, I liked Millenium a lot.

It was a good show about a psychic who helps the fbi/police solve crimes- with a subplot about a apocalpyse cult-like group he gets involved with.

I am not sure if it was a spin-off of X-files, but I do know they were in the same universe- as characters from one series were seen in another.

The series had a lot of disturbing scenes- the first episode was about a guy who sewed up the eyes and mouths of people and then buried them alive.

There were a lot of classic episodes-

My favorite with 4 demons meeting in a coffee joint to discuss their recent corruptions.

FX used to play episodes, but I am unsure if they still do.

BTW- there was one other short lived spin off of the X-files. "Strange Luck" or something like that. It was about some guy with amazing luck- I never got into it.

Millenium wasn't an X-Files spin-off. They shared the same universe, yes, but Frank Black (the main character from Millenium) didn't show up on X-Files until after Millenium was cancelled...

There were characters from The Lone Gunmen who didn't show up in The X-Files until the former's cancellation, too - your point? ;)

Millennium

I'm going to HIGHLY recommend Millennium. As stated, not a spin-off, but still great Chris Carter. If you somehow manage to find the series, you should keep special eye on the 2nd season. This is where former X-Files scribes Glen Morgan and James Wong ("Final Destination" and "The One" creator/writers/director also) pretty much take over the series and introduce an escalating series of events that paint the Millennium group as baddies looking to bring about an apocalypse that THEY can control. Such amazing episodes came out of this season that made it my favorite all-time show.

Regrettably, the chances of you finding episodes are slim to none. Ebay can supply some tapes made for the Emmys that show the very first two episodes or the last 2 of the second season (one of these is the demon ep mentioned above by Furn Darkside). I've also seen some dvds of the show's first season but they are sold for about $100 by questionable Japanese sellers.

Your best chance is to find someone that could tape their own collection and sell it to you. I have most of the episodes but I don't think I'm prepared to do this. It's definitely worth your searching, though. Good luck.

Salutations Napftor,

Perhaps you can help me with an episode I never totally understood- (I liked the show, but did not see close to all of them.)

There was an episode with a woman who kidnapped young men and kept them in this basement/dungeon. She was semi-nice to them, but would blast this one song over and over.

The weirdest thing was that, somehow, this little woman could immediately become a large muscled man.

The way Frank and others were discussing her, I assume she was in a previous episode.. but there was never reference made to what exactly was going on with her powers/psychosis.

If you could help solve this mystery for me, then I would appreciate it.

Actually, if I want to see some Millenium episodes I just go for a walk to my local video rental, where you can rent the whole series on tape. They sits in the shelf beside X-Files and Dark Skies, beneath Stargate SG-1, LEXX and Farscape and above Blake's 7, Space: 1999, Prisoner and Battlestar Galactica.

Or I can just go downtown where I know of several places where I can buy the tapes.

Ah, the beauty of Region 2!

I remember this episode, but refresh my memory - the woman's name was Lucy something-or-other wasn't it? If it was her (she was a recurring villain there for a while), she was quite the little demoness. Literally. I think thats what she was.

Happy to lend a hand, gang!

The woman in that episode was seen in all three seasons of the show. Her name is Lucy Butler and she is, I believe, Satan. This is why she could assume the different forms and explains her fascination with Frank> she wants him to the "dark side". In season 1, she killed the police chief, who was Frank's friend, inside the Black's yellow house. It was one of the scarier episodes, as Frank's wife Katherine looked up the staircase at one point and saw a woman's shadow and then, went a blast of thunder and lightning hit outside, she saw a winged devil. Freaky!! I recall they found Bletcher's heart in the frig.

Anyway, that's who she was.

I don't think "Strange Luck" was related to X-Files at all...although it also dealt with unexplainedness and conspiracy.

"Millineum" was not orginally conceived as an x-spinoff --- in fact, there was an early episode where someone was watching the X-Files on TV. Later, a bit character from X-Files met Frank and company. And finally, of course, Frank was on X-Files. So it would be stretching things to call it a spinoff, but the two series DO occur in the same continuity or universe.
