D&D 5E Number of Attacks in 5E

Howdy-

I know somewhere around here this has probably been addressed but I have no idea how to find such a thread, so apologies to the entrenched grognards around here for asking this question right off.

Looking in the DnD basic rules (WoTC download) it seems every body only gets one attack from level 1 to level 20. Is this just a basic rule or is this going to be in the full 5E edition too. And by all means, correct me if I am wrong, maybe I missed something or the other.

The feature that gives extra attacks is called 'Extra Attack', Fighters in Basic get this at at level 5, 11 and 20.

You can also get an extra attack by wielding a weapon in your off hand.

The PHB will add more classes capable of making extra attacks, either by the 'Extra Attack' ability or by other class abilities.

A fighter gets four attacks by level 20. Anyone dual wielding light weapons can make an additional attack as a bonus action.

So it looks like only the warrior type classes will get extra attacks now. All other non Fighter typres will have only 1 attack per a round? If thats the case, I'm totally for that concept.

Anyway, thanks for the answers.

Just wanted to mention Fighters can double their attacks for the round once or twice per encounter by using Action Surge. It makes quite a big difference!

You are correct. All warrior classes (that we've seen, anyway) get two attacks per round starting at level 5. Fighters--and only fighters--get a third attack at level 11 and a fourth attack at level 20.

Non-warrior classes get one attack per round, regardless of level. They compensate with bonus damage (e.g., rogues with Sneak Attack) or by not relying on weapon attacks (e.g., spellcasters).

Not per encounter, but per 'Short' (hour-long, completely uninterrupted) Rest. You're unlikely to get multiple short rests in a day.

The lack of extra attacks (outside of fighter) is one of the things that should keep higher level combat speedy, and something I am looking forward to.
