Non-violent cleric type?

I'm looking to create an order of clerics in which the females are healers and the males are protectors. I've got the females done but I need a non-violent male cleric with an emphasis on protection and non-violence (w/o intruding on the healing sphere of the female clerics). I don't want to use monks b/c there's another order for them, but maybe something with staff? The males don't even necessarily have to be straight clerics; they could have levels of fighter or warrior.

Any suggestions? Perhaps something from the BoED?

Don't really see a problem with this.
Just make up a god, and give him the following domains:

Protection (obvious reasons)
Travel (mobility is very important if you want to protect someone)
Healing (and even if you fail to reach someone in time it's always a good idea to be able to correct your mistakes)

Add some special restrictions for these Clerics, about how they must solve conflicts in a peaceful, diplomatic and good way. If that fails they are entitled to use necessary force to subdue their opponents. If a cleric of this order physically or mentally harms an opponent his is stripped of all his powers until he atones (as per' normal divine magic rules).

Also, you might want to tinker with some of the spells set into the domain lists. Since you are going to be taking out a whole lot of spells from the cleric lists giving these guys more powerful spells earlier is not a bad idea. Actually I think its essential to keep them alive.

You may wish to consider a 10/10 combo of Cleric and Apostle of Peace (BoED). You can pick up feat such as subdual strike which will allow you to deal non-lethal damage without penalty.

Oops. Okay, scratch the Healing domain and replace it with the Law-domain.

You'll still have to do a bit of tinkering, but I think it will work out fine :).
Just switch Order's Wrath and Dictum to something else.

Using the BoED, you may wish that male clerics take the following feat progression (if human cleric):

1 - Sacred Vow, Vow of Nonviolence
3 - Vow of Poverty
6 - Vow of Peace
9 - Feat of choice

Then, at 10th level, they join the PrC Apostle of Peace.

At lower levels, they can be somewhat militant (e.g. inflicting lethal damage on non-humanoids). However, at higher levels it will be increasingly likely that they use diplomacy to resolve conflicts. In addition, the abilities of Vow of Peace will go a long way in protecting them from individuals who cannot be reasoned with. Further more, their calming aura will be capable of resolving many conflicts.

If combat ensues, they can cast Clerical spells up to 5th level, then rapidly gain Apostle of Peace spells (9th level, by level 20) giving them a wide variety of buff/protection spells.

If things go down the toilet, they may use truly powerful spells and abilities like Pacifying touch (no save, no SR), End to Strife, Sanctify the Wicked, etc.
