D&D 4E New Races in 4e

WarlockLord

First Post
What 3.5 Monster Manual races do you think will be (or could be) in the 4e PHB or playable races in the 4e MM? We know Tiefling's out there, maybe Aasimar, but perhaps also maybe:
Drow (finally, I could make a drow wizard! There should be a rule though: You may choose either the drow race or scimitars. Not both.)
Hobgoblins
Kobolds
Goblins
A cool Lovecraftianesque abberant race...but that's not in WoW...uh oh
Necropolitans
Vampires (I would assume their abilities would be watered down and spread out across the levels)
Changelings
Shifters
Half-Giants

Any others you'd like to see?

There's a good chance that Aasimar have been renamed Eladrin. Eladrin was used for something similar in 3e, and it's a much more evocative name than aasimar. IMO it sounds much more celestial and inspiring, while aasimar sounds like a stereotypical fake scifi/fantasy word.

Your list looks good. For all of them I'd want them to be playable from level 1, and balanced with the PHB races. I'd add half ogres, or goliaths, or both. Some race that's big but playable.

Tiefling
Aasimar
Drow
Hobgoblins
Kobolds
Goblins
A cool Lovecraftianesque abberant race
Necropolitans
Vampires
Changelings
Shifters
Half-Giants
Warforged

Oh, and Decapodians.

Since at least one of the races you listed WASN'T in the 3.5 MM, I'll include those as well:

Birdfolk
Catfolk
Centaur
Dohwar
Draconian
Hobgoblin
Fey*
Giff
Goblin
Lizardfolk
Mascot**
Minotaur
Orc
Ratfolk
Specter***
Thri-Kreen
Vampire
Zombie****

* A 'class' for fey creatures from cute faeries to Gentleman With The Thistledown Hair-level near-epic threats.
** A catch-all race for cute mascot critters like moogles, chu-tribe members, pokemon, etc.
*** Changed to be a single template for incorporeal undead, ala Magic the Gathering.
**** Changed to be a single category for corporeal undead, ala Magic the Gathering.

You know, if you're going to make WoW jokes, you should probably actually KNOW something about WoW. Of the creatures on your list that appear in WoW (a minority of the list, in other words), none of them work like they do in D&D, or are remotely like they are in D&D. (The WoW kobolds would be a neat race to add, but they'd have to be called something different.)

3E art != anime
Stuff you don't like in 4E != WoW

I would definitely like to see the goliath! A big strong race that is NOT stupid was something I was looking for for a long time.

I'm not going to stop pushing the 1/2 Ogre bandwagon anytime soon.

Gi Joe, John Grond, this one's for you!

Actually Murlocs are inspired on the Deep Ones, not directly though.
There are some other lovecraftian inspiration in WoW too, just can't recall them now, stopped playing just before the expansion came.
Ah, there is petrified cthulhu buried in Darkshore ;)

Drow (finally, I could make a drow wizard! There should be a rule though: You may choose either the drow race or scimitars. Not both.)

I though scimitar dual fighting was a racial ability :)
