New Race: Kirby (Please Review)

First Post
This is a race for D20/DnD based off the Nintendo games and character "Kirby".

KIRBIES

Kirbies are a rare, aloof and isolated race. They each share similarities such as soft “puffy” skin, usually in bright colors. They also share a general respect for nature, and enjoy sleeping a lot.

Personality: Kirbies are found to be cute by most other races, and the few that have been encountered in history have been well liked. Most Kirbies openly show all emotions such as, anger, love, rage, and so on. They enjoy company, but get along fine by themselves.

Physical Description: Kirbies typically stand at about 3 to 4 feet tall, and weigh 20 to 50 pounds. There bodies are round and puffy, and they have soft fur that ranges in color, some have light blue, light green, light yellow, with the most common being pink. They have no visible noses, and have feet that are a darker version of their fur color. Their arms are short and they have mitten-like hands. Nearly all Kirbies have big black eyes.

Relations: Seeing that Kirbies are few and far between, they have very little positive or negative relationships with the other commonly found races. When they are found, or come across other races they normally manage to make friends with ease, and don’t mind well-mannered company at all.

Alignment: Kirbies do not tend toward any particular alignment. Among the few found Kirbies, their alignments and ideals are widespread.

Kirby Lands: There are relatively no Kirby lands, as most Kirbies are found living alone in small, secluded locations, or even more rarely in small groups. It is said however that Kirbies originate from a strange and mystical plane known as “Dream Land”
Religion: Kirbies value earth, nature, and especially outer space; many Kirbies worship a deity who represents these things. Some Kirbies worship the once famous hero of Dream Land, a Kirby known as “Kirby” who supposedly saved their world from evil forces. And yet there are some Kirbies who worship no deity.

Language: Kirbies mostly speak and write in Common, but they do know odd, spoken-only language known as Kirby.

Names: There is much variation among Kirby names, some are given human names, and other named after stars or relatives. It is also not uncommon for a Kirby to be named after a member of another race such as a Dwarf, or an Elf.

Adventures: Most Kirbies only adventure when it is called of them, or when there is some task they wish to complete. Other Kirbies may adventure because they seek knowledge, or a rare few like Humans wish to gain glory and riches.

KIRBY RACIAL TRAITS
· +2 Charisma, -2 Constitution, +2 Dexterity -2 Strength: Kirbies are an attractive, agile race of small people, there bodies are not naturally rough, and their small limbs hamper their strength.
· Small: As Small creatures Kirbies gain a +1 size bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus to attack rolls, and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks, but they must use smaller weapons then humans use, and their lifting and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of Medium-size characters.
· Kirbies base speed is 20 feet.
· +4 racial bonus to Jump: Kirbies are able to manage the weight and air intake of their bodies to jumper higher and longer.
· Ability Absorption (SU): As a standard action a Kirbies may suck a large sized or smaller creature into their mouth with a successful wisdom checks vs. the targeted creature’s reflex save. Once absorbed the targeted creature is instantly spit back into the square it started in, the Kirby now gains a duplicate weapon (and the weapon prof. to match the weapon, if the Kirby does not already have it), feat (Weather or not he/she qualifies), supernatural ability, or extraordinary ability, determined by the DM, lasting for 1d6+The Kirby's Wisdom modifier rounds. This ability is usable and unlimited number of times per day and has a range of 10 feet.
· Automatic Languages: Common, Kirby. Bonus Languages: Any (other then secret languages such as Druidic)
· Favored Class: Any.

I think ability absorption should be based on CON because that is kirby sucking air in, but that goes against the grain of the race because of low constitution.

Thats a fairly good idea, but the idea was that its more of a magical abilty then the actual ability of sucking in air/creatures.

And the reason for the low con, I also thought that Kirby was a bit soft and overweight.

Funny that this should come up now...

There's been a discussion recently on the Monte Cook messageboards about Kirby. I posted up my version -- that I used for a Planescape campaign -- and then the entire group discussed and tinkered with it a bit.

I started with the assumption that Kirby was a unique, awakened ooze. So that really doesn't help your race. But you might get some ideas from this anyway...

---------------------------------------

Kirby
Medium Ooze (Awakened)

Hit Dice................10d10 + 50 (105 hp)
Initiative...............+0
Speed..................30 ft., climb 20 ft., Fly 20 ft. (average)
AC.......................14 (+0 Dex, +4 Natural Armor)
Attacks................Slam +10 melee
Damage................Slam 1d6 + 4
Face/Reach...........5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks......Inhale, Improved grab, Swallow Whole, Absorb Ability, Spit
Special Qualities.....Blindsight, ooze, Awakened, Buoyant Flight
Saves...................Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +3
Abilities.................Str 17, Dex 10, Con 19, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 10
Skills....................Perform (dance): 5

Blindsight (Ex): An ooze’s entire body is a primitive sensory organ that can ascertain prey by scent and vibration within 60 feet.

Ooze: Immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, and polymorphing. Not subject to critical hits.

Awakened (Ex): Due to his unique nature, Kirby is not immune to mind-influencing effects.

Inhale (Su): By gulping a huge amount of air, Kirby is able to suck a target into his square in order to swallow it. Inhalation affects a cone 10 feet + 5 feet/(Kirby's size category bigger than Small, normally 15') in length. All creatures inside the affect who are the same size category or smaller than Kirby must make a Ref save (DC 16) or be immediately moved to Kirby's square, where Kirby immediately grapples them as a free action with a -4 to his (Kirby's) Grapple check. Any who fail the grapple check are in contact with Kirby's surface, where they can be Swallowed Whole or Spit. Kirby may grapple multiple creatures like this, but each additional creature accumulates an additional -2 on the grapple check.

Once Kirby attempts to inhale, he can't do so again for 1d4 rounds. Activating this inverted breath weapon is a standard action which draws attacks of opprotunity. If desired, Kirby can continue to use Inhale for the rest of the round by extending the action to a full-round action, although if he is hit he must make a Concentration ckeck as if casting a spell or immediately stop inhaling.

Improved Grab (Ex): To use this ability, Kirby must hit with his slam attack. If he gets a hold, he automatically deals slam damage and can try to swallow the opponent.

Swallow Whole (Ex): Kirby can try to swallow a grabbed opponent of Large or smaller size by making a successful grapple check. Once inside, the opponent takes 1d6 + 4 points of crushing damage per round from Kirby’s internal cellular pressure. A swallowed creature can climb out of Kirby with a successful grapple check. This removes the creature from Kirby, but it remains entangled in the cellular structure, where another successful grapple check is needed to get free. A swallowed creature can also cut its way out by using claws or a Small or Tiny slashing weapon to deal 25 points of damage to the internal cells (AC 15). Once the creature exits, Kirby's ooze nature closes the hole; another swallowed opponent must cut its own way out. Kirby can hold only one opponent at a time, regardless of their size.

Absorb Ability (Su): As a result of the magical experiments that created him, Kirby has the unique ability to absorb power from a creature that has been Swallowed Whole for as long as the creature survives. Kirby gains the BAB, class abilities, and physical ability scores of the creature swallowed, though his hit points do not change. These changes take place as soon as the creature has been swallowed. Any equipment used by the swallowed creature migrates outward (taking one round to do so as a free action for Kirby) and Kirby automatically becomes proficient in its use. Any spells, spell-like abilities, or supernatural abilities that the swallowed creature has are also available to Kirby, regardless of whether or not his ability scores are actually high enough to use them. (Thus, Kirby could cast an 8th level spell if he swallowed someone capable of casting one, though his intelligence would not normally allow this.) Any special abilities with limited daily uses (such as memorized spells or a half-dragon’s once-per-day breath weapon) are used up both for Kirby and the swallowed character if Kirby uses them.

Kirby retains the physical ability scores, BAB, and class abilities of a swallowed creature until he swallows another creature. He also retains any absorbed equipment and remains proficient in its use even after the victim is dead, has escaped, or is Spit out. Kirby loses access to any spells, spell-like abilities, or supernatural abilities of the swallowed victim as soon as the victim dies, escapes from Kirby, or is Spit out.

Note that items that the character does not currently have equipped are unaffected and remain with a swallowed character.

Spit (Ex): As a standard action that does not draw an attack of opportunity, Kirby can spit out a swallowed character. This attack has a range of 10’ and does 1d6 damage to the ejected victim. If Kirby uses this as an attack on a nearby character, both the ejected victim and the target take 1d6 damage if Kirby’s ranged attack roll would hit the target. Kirby takes no penalties for using a non-standard ranged weapon for this attack.

Buoyant Flight (Ex): As a standard action that does not draw an attack of opportunity, Kirby may gulp in a huge breath of air. After doing so, Kirby may fly at a rate of 20ft per round with average maneuverability. Kirby may not have a creature (regardless of size) swallowed whole to use this ability.

Thats pretty cool. Its more of a monster then what my Kirby was going for.

Would anyone play my Kirby race? Is it balanced?

I would go with the grapple check idea myself. Basically a reflex save to suck him in (moving him provokes AOO), and then a grapple check to actually swallow him. And then the idea of a delay between inhalling is good too.

You would probably give this guy a +1 ECL, since the ability to move a guy inwards (provoking AOO) is really nice, and then ability absorb is even sweeter.
