New name for the "half-elf?"

Know anyone who's of mixed Asian/Pacific Islander and European caucasian heritage? You might have heard the term, "hapa." It's a slangish self-descriptor that sounds a bit more elegant than "half-white" or half ... something.

Then we take a jump to fantasy Eberron where we find that half-elves can actually mate/breed true and consider themselves a people unto themselves. Delightful! Good for them!

And yet they're still calling themselves "half-elves?"

Gimme a better name for a people who are whole.

I'm pretty sure that somewhere in the ECS or the dragonshard's on WotC's website, it's been mentioned that half-elves are referred to as the Korvaire in Eberron. I'll check and see if I can find a referrence online somewhere.

Later,

edit: Ha! I knew I had seen it some place! I was wrong about the name - it's Khoravar, a derivative of Khorvaire. Here's the link: Khoravar

you do realise that the word hapa is just a transliteration of half - so whats the elf word for half? - use that

The Sindarin word for "half" is apparently "per-" as a prefix or "perin" as an adjective, but unfortunately "halfling" is "perian". ;)

Maybe something like "perellon". Or in Quenya, "perequende" or something.

Man, who knows. I don't like Tolkien.

Using the Elven phrasebook in Races of the Wild, "-ess" or "-esti" is a suffix meaning elves or elven, so you could bastardise a word and say "peress" or "peresti", maybe.

When I run, humans call half-elves half-elves. Elves call them either men or elves, depending on who they most resemble. Half-elves refer to themselves as elves or men, depending on what they view themselves as.

The old legends call elven children, foisted off upon humans as their own, "Changelings".

"Periquende" works for me.

"Elladan" (Elf-Man) was the name of one of Elrond's "Half-Elven" sons, so "Elladani" might also work, or "Elladannath", for "host of the Elf-Men".

Any of those strike yer fancy?
