New Metallic Dragons

So I started creating a few metallic dragons over at JonBrazer.com and you will notice that I changed the breath weapon of the copper dragon from acid to lightning. That is because that never made any sense to me. To me, copper is used in conductivity which naturally leads to electricity, atleast to me. I want to keep making more metallic dragons but I am having trouble deciding. So I thought I would toss it to the group at large and let you all share your thoughts.

Here are a few I thought of (and either key characteristics or reasons why):

  • Iron. Cold breath weapon. This more or less combines brass and bronze into the metal that makes them both up. Troop
  • Gold. Fire breath weapon. The classic dragon. Obviously the great golden wyrm is apart of this dragon race. Leader.
  • Lead. This dragon doesn't fly but burrows. Blocker
  • Orichalcum. Magical metal => a truly magical dragon either caster or spoiler
  • Boron. "But when they combine they form the strong 5th element: Boron". acid breath weapon, probably wrecker, maybe spoiler
  • Sodium. dragon with soft, flexible scales, doesn't take much damage as it otherwise should. probably spoiler

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I think you really need to stick to the best known of the elements.
boron? sodium? not a chance im using these, not medieval enough.

Mercury: an illusionist, or shape shifter
Tin: the weakest of the metallic dragons. This would be an ally or comic relief. a jokester like brass.

I would use Iron or lead as metallic dragons.

  • ?? Bronze is copper and tin, brass is copper and zinc - dunno how iron figures into that.

OK - gold => sun therefore fire and light.

[*]Lead. This dragon doesn't fly but burrows. Blocker
    Also stealth and resistance.

[*]Orichalcum. Magical metal => a truly magical dragon either caster or spoiler
Also associations with motive power and rosy redness.

[*]Boron. "But when they combine they form the strong 5th element: Boron". acid breath weapon, probably wrecker, maybe spoiler
And stops nuclear reactions stone dead...

[*]Sodium. dragon with soft, flexible scales, doesn't take much damage as it otherwise should. probably spoiler
Heh - and, when they fight - which they do like cats - they become "claw-eyed". Then you can take them with a pinch of salt...

Not sure about the last two, but other long-known metals include antimony, zinc and mercury. Take a look at the websites here (for scientific and modern uses of metals) and here (for mystical and magical attributes of metals) for plenty of good inspiration.

Made me go look up when the elements were each "discovered" - http://www.mpoweruk.com/elements.htm .
I had no idea Platinum wasn't known in the west until the 1700s!

Never thought about how odd it was to have brass and bronze dragons instead of just the non-alloys too. (Shouldn't those be treated just the same as the non-primary colors?)
