Neverwhere

First Post
I just got done reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere for the 4th time and really like the characters of Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar. What I am wondering is other peoples thought on what these two should be class wise, or if I should just make them unique with their own powers.

Any suggestions. I would appreciate the help.

Mang, I loved that movie.

Mr Croup.

Mr Vandemar.

Protecting the earth from the scum of the universe.

Hong "or was that something else...?" Ooi

I would say the Mr Croup and Mr Vandemar are definitely unique people--er, creatures. To pidgeon-hole them into an existing class would take away a lot of their mystique.

Omokage is right. Besides, 3e is not the system I would recommend for a Neverwhere campaign setting. NW is far too "uncrunchy" in nature.

For a similiar pair, check out Mr. Tulip & Mr. Pin in "The Truth" by Terry Pratchett.

I am not looking for a Neverwhere Campiagn, I am just trying to figuire out how to make the two into NPC's of some sorts. Just having a hell of a time doing it.

I wouldn't stat them out at all. They're more of an idea than they are mortal beings - Avatars of Pain, Cunning, and Sadism, if you will.

For a system that would work well in emulating Neverwhere, check out "Underworld" - It might be a little hard to find these days, but a bit of web searching should turn up a copy. It was inspired by Neverwhere, King Rat, and the Beauty and the Beast television series, among other sources. Good stuff, and perfectly emulates the feel of Gaiman's book.

If you haven't seen the Neverwhere BBC miniseries, check on eBay - there are usually a few copies on video for sale at good prices.

The BBC show never appeared in america in a legal version. I did, however, buy a pretty decent recording offa tv at MegaCon a few years ago. Hadda have it, I'm a HUGE Gaiman fan!
