Netrunning, Cyberspace, Decking, The Matrix...

Is there a product that has a good system for Netrunning? I am starting to form some base concepts for a future campaign (once I get done tormenting my players in my D&D game) and would like a good system for this kind of thing.

I always appreciated the sophistication of Decking in Shadowrun, but don't know if there is anything even remotly equivalent for d20 Future or Modern.

Thanks for any input.

WotC released VRNet as a free web enhancement for d20 Future. I have no idea how it compares to Shadowrun-style netrunning, but it appears to be very similar in concept. Check it out.

You might try Mongoose Publishing's OGL Cybernet.

It's an OGL book that is fairly compatible with d20 Modern. If you picked that up, and used it with d20 Modern and Urban Arcana, you could replicate a bit of that Shadowrun feel in d20. Fairly decent Matrix-style rules in OGL Cybernet, although I've never used them.

Wonderland Tree is one conversion from Shadowrun to d20.

There was another fan-based conversion where a guy (epic fetus?) converted Shadowrun for use with d20 Modern. It wasn't a bad PDF. I just can't find it right off.

Hope that helps.

One of the best "hacking' systems I have seen was from the Perpatued Press book
Factory. It deals with magical robots and computer systems, but I think it could be converted to D20 Future very easily. It is a drawing interface much like the old Cyberpunk 2020 datafortress maps. But it is more similar to realworld hacking (much like the Hacker computer game) as opposed to shadowrun virtual reality.

Look out for our Etherscope game. This game combines a victoriana/steampunk type setting with all the cyberware and netrunning of a cyberpunk game. We've got great new rules for netrunning (or Scope Riding as we call it) which could quite easily be lifted into D20 Modern (with no effort at all) or other D20 system games (with a little more effort).

We're currently in discussions with a print publisher about Etherscope, so I can't give you any release dates as yet, but when it comes out it will be excellent! As a small time PDF publisher we really couldn'tdo the product true justice on the art/production quality front, so working with a print publsiher will give us the chance to show of etherscope at its best.

For more details on Etherscope, have a look at this thread: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=43034

Cheerio,

Ben

Malladin, I must say that Etherscope looks like it could be a wonderful creation. But the question is when will you release?

Adamant Entertainment's NETSPACE: The Definitive D20 Guide to Virtual Reality is very good too

Thanks for the plug!

I was going to suggest the same thing myself. NETSPACE is written by Malcolm Sheppard (author of several MAGE supplements for White Wolf, among other products) and is part of our TERMINAL IDENTITY line of cyberpunk-genre products. Click the cover image for more information.

Unfortunately that is not something I can reveal at this point. We are currently in talks with a print publisher and I have just this minute recieved some VERY good news regarding it, but as yet no definate release date has been set and I don't think I'd be allowed to say if it had, what with confidentiality agreements and the like. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to talk about the game, its themes, etc, but I think I may just have pushed a bit far in what I've just said so I'll leave it at that for now. But I'm happy to answer any questions regarding the game itself.

We'll also be looking for "a few good gamers" to do some playtesting, but we'd need people who can testify to being able to dedicate a month of a regular gaming group's time to actually running some set adventures. Contact me on benr@malladinsgate.com if you're interested. That way you can get hold of our rules without having to wait for the product (and we'll probably be able to give you a copy of thebook when it's releasded [1 per group])

Cheerio,

Ben
