Need help creating a con-artist character

First Post
Well I have asked to join a D&D games I have a concept that I to "try" which is the con artist. The thing I want to do is not be your typical con asrtist. I want to do something different, unique or stange whic instead using just technology but more mystical (in general) since this is for a fantasy game. I know I do not want to play human or most of the races from the PHB.

This game dose has thee potential for alot cheating of games and betting. I just want to have the weird/odd edge to my con work and tichery.

Any good suggestions?

Technowraith, I've actually designed an unstoppable con-artist character. If you'll send me $29.95, I'll send you a copy of the character sheet.

Some ideas:
-Get a copy of Steal this Book. It's chockablock full of ideas on running low-level scams. (I think there's a Complete Works of Abbie Hoffman out there that includes this book).
-Watch some good con movies; Nine Queens, a neglected con-film from Argentine, is superfantastic for con ideas.
-One idea that would be fun, but maybe not playable, would be to be a paladin. Errr...cleric of Olidammara masquerading as a paladin. Do the whole, "No need to thank me, ma'am, just doing my job" schtick, only after you're gone, the lady realizes she's missing her necklace, her earrings, and her moneypouch. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly has a similar scam in it, IIRC.
-Silent Image combined with Sleight of Hand could be fun. Palm the dice, make an image of them rolling the way you want (you'll probably have to rattle the dice in your hands to make the right noises), and "pick them up" quickly after the winning numbers come up.
-A new feat, "Adjust Chance" (or maybe a substitute Arcane Trickster ability): while using Mage Hand, you can make minor adjustments, applying a modifier (positive or negative) equal to your spellcasting ability modifier to any fine object within range. Thus, you can make arrow and other ammunition more or less accurate than normal, or you can change how dice roll.
-Hong's advice is good, but do not neglect Sleight of Hand: that's what you're going to be using to do trick deals in card games, to switch the real jewels for the fake ones while the victim is watching, and so forth.

Ooh! My shadowdancer just got Shadow Illusion and I've been trying to think up tricks to play on the other party members. :)

That was off-topic, so here's an idea for a con with a D&D twist: Sell magic weapons that are really masterwork weapons with light and magic aura cast on them. This works best if you sell them on the black market - buyers will be suspicious of buying a magic sword at half price from a guy in a tavern, but if they think the item is stolen then it won't occur to them that it might be fake. That's a classic con technique.
