Mules are not just one size. It depends greatly on the type of horse and donkey that sires them. So, in the real world, mules can be as big as draft horses, or as small as regular horses. It all depends on the parentage.
So with that in mind, here are the rules to fix that blip.
Small mule (pony sized):
Carrying/dragging capacity
A light load for a small mule is up to 75 pounds; a medium load, 76–150 pounds; and a heavy load, 151–225 pounds. A small mule can drag 1,125 pounds.
Medium mule (light horse)
A light load for a medium sized mule is up to 150 pounds; a medium load, 151–300 pounds; and a heavy load, 301–450 pounds. A medium sized mule can drag 2,250 pounds.
Large mule
A light load for a large sized mule is up to 300 pounds; a medium load, 301–600 pounds; and a heavy load, 601–900 pounds. A large sized mule can drag 4,500 pounds.
