Monstrous vampires

First Post
Hi all,

I just noticed the Monstrous Vampire template in Ghostwalk, and the 3.5 update for it on the WotC website.

Just wondering what people's experiences with this have been, and any interesting creatures to apply the template to. The example given is a Yuan-ti.

Firstly: dood, best Avatar... evar!

Secondly: I haven't seen the Monstrous Vampire template. Any reason to not use the standard Vampire template (despite the silly and arbitrary Type restrictions)?

Silly and arbitrary? i think not. That type restriction keeps the template mostly on classed humanoids of medium size; high treasure and less hit die than their CR . The Ghostwalk version of the template lets high str, improved grabbers get a lot worse.

The Ghostwalk is a campaign where PCs can be immune to a lot of vampire attacks. Letting Aberrations, Animals, Beasts, Dragons, Fey, Giants, Humanoids, Monstrous humanoids, and Vermin all be vampires may be quite dangerous in a normal game. Do note the actual monstrous vampire template is the same as the vampire template, other than that the vamp gets to sleep IN a big hunk of stone.
