D&D 5E Mithril Armor?

Can anyone with the DMG tell me what mithril armor does?

I'm waiting for my DMG to turn up and last nights session had a suit of mithril scalemail that a character found so I need to know before the next session.

I don't have the books but I am pretty sure I read it somewhere. It's no disadvantage on stealth checks and you don't need profiency to wear it......I think.

If the armor would normally impose disadvantage to dexterity (Stealth) checks orhas a Strength requirement, the mithril version of the armor does not.
No mention about changing proficiency requirements.

While increasing the allowable dex modifier is traditional, I think it would affect bounded accuracy too much so I like the route they chose for this iteration.

How is it useful now? Breastplate is 14+2 dex with no disadvantage? SO they are allowing heavy armor's to be mithril too perhaps? I don't have DMG so i'm confused. Studded leather is 12+dex so a 4 or 5 dex can get the same AC as Half-plate. Mithril version of half-plate I guess would be nice for medium armor stealth types with low dex? Heavy armor needs str minimums so fits a unique niche already.

At that point if you want medium and stealth you might invest in the feat that DOES allow +1 more to dex for the armor and also removes disadvantage. Just surprised it doesn't boost the dex max since a feat does and ALSO removes disadvantage anyways.

Seems like they just made mithril a very lesser thing in this edition. I thought a mithril breastplate with +3 dex would be not broken and with the feat allowing up to +4 dex would be something a really high level rogue/valor bard, dex fighters, etc would be great. Almost as good as heavy armor but still not quite AND it required a feat and "mithril" to do it.

Think about it this way sithramir with mithril full plate a Fighter 1/ Rogue X can use stealth in full plate.

Oh well I usually play wizards so I shouldn't be that disappointed lol. Mithril is 4 x the cost of the armor it is?

So pretty pricy. You are a pretty high level before that is affordable. What were you doing the first 8 levels hehe
