Misty Step any good?

First Post
Just how good is misty step? I'm having a real hard time trying to figure out if it is actually worthwhile and useful or if it is all flash and no bang. What are some useful things you can do with it? How have you used it personally that was interesting or effective?

Also some questions about misty step/teleportation.

If two cursed enemies die at the same time, are you able to misty step once or twice?

Does teleportation count toward the spaces need to be moved to activate shadow walk?

Can Eye of the Warlock interact with teleportation powers? i.e. if powers can originate from that square could you count that as your starting point for teleportation.

If your GM agrees with the ruling that it activates Shadow Walk, it's really good. Because it would be the equivalent of +2 to ll defenses for free, plus some tactical maneuvering.

I like the power for making sure the enemy never knows where my feylock will be.

Yes. This was clarified in a Customer Service or FAQ question somewhere. Multiple deaths trigger your pact boon mutliple times.

Shadow Walk requires you to move at least three squares away from where you start your turn. Teleportation is a kind of movement, so you could use Misty Step to qualify. But only for Misty Steps causing deaths that occur on your turn: if an ally kills a cursed foe, you teleport but that generally won't help for Shadow Walk.

That's a very interesting idea. The teleportation rules are actually pretty unclear on this, now that I read over them. (By "Unclear" I mean "Rules Lawyers could argue that you can teleport any distance you can see, which is clearly not RAI.)

This much is clear: you can use Eye of the Warlock to see through someone else's eyes and thereby teleport to somewhere you cannot see, thus avoiding the teleporting needing line of sight rule. But I'm unclear on whether you'd count your teleport distance from your square or the alternate subject's square, as the teleporting rules don't actually mention the teleportation distance at all.

Arcane Reach is also interesting for this purpose. something like Otherwind Stride could be applied to many enemies farther away, and allow extra teleporting (maybe).

One of the groups I'm in is experimenting with different classes and builds to get a solid feel for 4e. A player recently swapped to playing a tiefling fey warlock and loves it. He's a very solid contributor to the group and his misty step has been a real boon to him and us as a group.

He combines it well with the Rod of Corruption, which curses several targets adjacent to any target that dies. This way, he's constantly getting teleports outside of his turn and thus is never really in any danger since he'll be on one side of the battle one second, and on the other side the next.

A couple of times we've used it to good effect, like when he was targeted once so someone else on their turn killed a minion who was cursed by him, so he got a free teleport out of trouble.

Another time, my rogue got himself into trouble and got surrounded by four enemies in a corridor. He zipped over on a free teleport on his turn and used his last action to curse the enemy he flanked for me. This gave me combat advantage so I used Bait & Switch to get out of the area, and that dropped the enemy, giving the warlock another free teleport away. So one minute I was in big trouble, the next, we were both laughing :D

Awesome! This is the kind of teamwork that makes 4e a fun game.

Fey Pact warlock was my first 4e character. I love it. You wont do as much damage as an infernal, but I would easily put fey-pact lox highest for mobility.
Few things are rewarding as using a rod of corrpution and then being able to teleport around a battlefield several times while your turn is over!

If you like the awesome archetype(s) that comes w/ the fey, and you like mobility, then I would say give it a shot.
My question is this. Do you think Fey-Step is useful? If so, then you will find many parallel uses for misty step.

Well I certainly think that feystep is useful, it's just the weirdness of misty steps activation that makes it see clunky to me. The more I think about it though, the more it seems like it should be the most fun of the pact boons just because it has the most room for creativity.

If multiple deaths at the same time active multiple misty steps, slashing wake looks more fun.

Our feylock has used his teleports to great effect, most notably when we're fighting in cities/towns. He just teleports up to rooftops and blasts enemies from there. If they climb up after them, he teleports to another building across the street.

Last session, he used a free teleport to teleport down to the street where our cleric was down, then on his turn dumped a potion into the cleric and used his utility teleport to get back to the roof! Was pretty sweet. 2nd best/coolest move of his of the night - the 1st being his gnarly Hunger of Hadar/Otherwind Stride AP trick that immobilized the BBEG in the Hadar zone with the cleric's Spiritual Weapon pounding away on him.

It's also self-propagating since it allows him to get wherever he wants to be to curse others. Slashing Wake is going to be neat...

Another great item to have on hand is the Rod of Harvests, or something like that, I think? When a cursed enemy falls, you can choose to store the Misty Step use. So you can stock up on them if you don't necessarily want to teleport at a given moment. All in all, fey pact warlocks are a blast. I think I personally prefer them to the other pacts by far. =D

That particular item does seem like a must have for feylocks IMO.

I Misty Step and Shadow Walk combined for lots of hit-and-run tactics with my Tielfling Fey Warlock. I curse an enemy, fire a blast at it, then move 3 spaces for the concealment bonus while the enemies try to get through the fighters. I like the mobility that it offers. It's all about control and positioning.
