D&D 5E Missing spells school spells at certain spell levels.

Man, I just found out there are no Divination spells for 7th and 8th levels in 5e dungeons and dragons.

I guess I'm asking if

1. If this happens regularily with the other spell schools?
2. does this take away from the niche of playing a specialist wizard?
3. What spells could be made to fill those spell levels?

Well, here are the divination spells from the 3.5 SRD for 7th and 8th level that you could possibly take some time to try and adapt if necessary:

7th Div

8th Div

I'd go with something like:

Fate Reversal: As a reaction when the mage receives a condition, they can transfer the condition on the attacker.
Painful revelation: dispel all illusions, everyone within 5ft of one takes 8d10 force damage
Mind Eye: Steal a spell from a spellcaster
Remove from sight: Greater invisibility with non-detection
Vision of Fate: Power Word Kill + Fear
Avatar: Guardian of Faith dealing psychic damage + charm or fear.

I created a revised version of the PHB wizard that made it so you always treat spells of your school as memorized (Int Mod spells of other schools can be memorized). There were some other small changes but overall I was happy with the outcome except for divination wizards. They only got 17 divination spells total and as was already pointed out there were none in the 7th and 8th levels.

HOMEBREW. Make your own spells! There are a lot of great ideas from prior editions, from our immagination, and from from 3P products that can really improve your game - whether you introduce them as a player, or as a DM.

Roughly 1/3 of the magic items, spells, and monsters my PCs face originate from outside of the 5E books ... and the lack of 'book knowledge' of this 1/3 makes a huge impact on the feel of the game with players not assuming that everything they face is going to be cookie cutter from the books.

Adding roughly this amount of homebrew to your game will have a HUGE difference on your play experience - and it will usually be a great improvement - although if you are not careful about what you add it can have detrimental impacts.
