Louisville, KY Game Stores

I'll be in the area in a few weeks for a wedding and some business meetings. While I'm there I'd like to visit some local stores. Any suggestions?

None.

Seriously, I never found any actual game stores while I was living there. A few comic shops with a meager selection. You're best off hitting the bookstore in the Jefferson Mall . Mostly just Wizards & White Wolf, but it had a decent d20 selection when I was there a couple years ago.

Okay, that's sad to hear. Thanks.

There used to be a store called "Something to do" in Oxmoor Mall, but I think they went out of business a few years ago. Real shame too, it was the first game shop I ever went to.

I've got a flyer for a place called "Louisville Game Shop" at 925 Baxter Avenue, but I've not been there (I've just seen flyers for Larry Elmore doing an autograph session there yesterday).

From what I understand, people who are looking for gaming stores in Louisville come down to Lexington to shop for games (of course, living in Lexington, I'll mostly see people who come down here for gaming stores, of which we have several in Lexington).

There are a couple of game stores here in Louisville, excluding the "Something to Do" hobby stores in the mall. The three I frequent are:

Comicbook World
website: www.comicbookworld.com
Guy in charge: Doug
Probably the best RPG selection in town and definitely the cleanest shop. Downside is they shrinkwrap just about everything and the staff are more comic oriented than RPG.

The Great Escape
website: www.thegreatescapeonline.com/tge.jsp
Your classic hole-in-the-wall collectible store. Decent selections but "cozy" (aka small)

Preston Book & Music Exchange

Guys to talk to: Mike or Donny
Big place with about as much RPG stuff as Great Escape but tons more comics, fiction, and movies. Several large tables in center of store frequently used for CCGs and RPGs.
A little less organized b/c BME tends to have roughly the same staff as TGE but 3x the floorspace.

Louisville Game Shop is new and hasn't acquired a following yet among the older gamers who don't live in the area. I stopped by during their business hours a few weeks back but it wasn't open. From what I could see through the window it looks more Reaper/Mini focused. Elmore lives in the vicinity so it's possible he knows the owners. I've never met the man but I've got friends who've modeled for him a couple of times with their SCA armor.

IIRC there's also a ComicZone store but I don't think it had any RPGs.

If you need more info, you can email me at kigmatzomat (at) hotmail.

Comicbook World and the Book and Music Exchange both have big game followings. Soemthing-to-do has hosted minis tournaments. There is also a game store in the Dupont Circle but its name escapes me at the moment. Its fairly new but I've heard some good things about it. I can't give any first hand news, but one of the regulars at our weekly game gave it a good review. I'll do some checking and get back to you.

On a side note, the Louisville Game Shop is certainly trying to make a name for itself. They had Larry Elmore in the shop last Sunday. Unfortunately, I was out of town and couldn't go.

Thanks for the help, guys. It looks like the only chance I'll have to look around is Monday October 3rd. Hopefully a lot of these places aren't closed Mondays.

The ones I listed are open 7 days a week. CBW tends to close early when school is in session ~7 or 8pm, BME & TGE stay open 'til 9pm on weekdays.

Any idea where the game store in Dupont is, Irsach? I'm guessing it would be near Village 8 but there's a lot of little buildings along the outside of the loop.

Its supposed to be tucked away on the interior of the building. I'm not entirely sure. I haven't been able to get up there yet to look at it. Stinkin' honey-do list..... :\
