Looking to make a 'Power Ranger'

I want to make a class that is a Power Ranger. (Like the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers, not like a D&D Ranger...lol...)

My thought is, rules-wise, to make it all the rules of a monk with the Hengeyokai ability of shapeshifting from human, hybrid, and animal. Maybe when the shift is made to also give an additional ability modifier and an AC boost?

I'm not so worried about ranged at all, just trying to find a way to make a monk that can morph and when morphed has a weapon and an ac bonus...that was part of the allure of the Hengeyokai...

Like, I thought to do have the backstory be involved in the race, so any race that goes to this particular monastery gain a "shift" ability like that of a Druid or a Hengeyokai and that's the "morph"...that way it has a rule to it and proper background...instead of having to make someone make it up...

Well, the whole idea of power rangers is that all of the episodes (play sessions) had a formula. It was like one of those Russian Dolls with layers of escalation. Otherwise, just a monk class with a homebrew suit would work.

First, you had the regular human identity. These would be low stat but be able to use charisma based skills for roleplay and diplomacy. This is used for interacting with muggles. The classmates, principle, whatever.

Second, through use of a magic (or tech) item, you transformed and could use monk or martial abilities and better HP. But this is only used for fighting or interacting with power entities. The morphin suit increases stats.

Third, the Zords. A separate sheet for drivable constructs. For when the group of Space Minotaur invaders with exploding greatswowds enlarge.

Fourth, for when epic, threats occur, stats with the multiple Zords to form mega Zord with each character having separate actions for their part of the Zord so it will not be just the Driver's show and everyone can have fun.

To truly do that, a campaign would have to be set around it and heavily homebrewed perhaps with aspects of old Paladium or some of the future Gurps books for Mechs. Would be a hard group to find to either play in that or DM unless you slide it in as some Gamma World homebrew due to gamer tastes and the cheesy plot stucture of Power Rangers. But for just a dude in a magic suit jumping around kicking butt, just a monk/fighter or pure monk and house ruled suit.

I'm thinking more like a homebrew race, like a variant on human...regular human until given a blessing by Zordon, the deity of this character, and grants him a, once per encounter, "morph" that hides his identity, gives an ac boost and grants him a weapon, then if he should drop below 1/4 of his hit points, he is forced out of his morph...does that sound good?

Sounds good. Almost like a 4e PHB2 Shifter but with some kind of soulbound weapon that appears.

If your DM takes it, sounds cool as long as you do not ask for a colossal construct to pilot towards the bad guy's castle. :D

But I ask: why wouldn't you want to be "morphed" all the time?

I always thought that about Mumm-Ra from Thundercats. Why be Mr Burns in a toilet paper suit when you can be a musclebound bad ass at will instead? I remember wondering that as a kid. Maybe I missed the episode where they explained that he needs to rest for 2 weeks for every day he's rejuvenated.
Also makes you wonder why Liono (with his Sight Beyond Sight) didn't just do a van Helsing, track him down to his lair (defended by feeble-minded :):):):):):):)s), and stake him with the Sword of Omens while he slept.
I guess I'm chaotic good at best.
