Looking for a game store in Minneapolis.

I'm looking for one specific store, but if anyone knows of any other stores I'd like to know about them too.

I was in Minneapolis 4 years ago and found a store that had lots of old D&D novels and ever since I've been kicking myself that I haven't bought all the books I need to complete my collection.

I will be going back soon and I hope to find that store again (in the hope they will still have some of those books).

Because I'm not entirely sure I might be able to find it back, I hope someone on this board might know exactly where it is located.

What I do know, is that it was within walking distance of the Minneapolis Convention Center (but it might have been as much as 20 blocks). The store was I think at a Y-intersection and there might have been a cinema across the road (or nearby at least). The store had 4 or 5 head-high racks filled with books (both fantasy and science fiction) and in the front they had comics and trading cards.

I'm afraid that's all I have to go on. I hope someone can point me in the right direction (or tell me of some other nearby store where I can find out of print Forgotten Realms novels).

I just remembered that it was almost impossible to reckognize as a game store from the outside (no large windows or any signs).

Not much help that, I'm afraid. ;-)

Got your back in the Twin Cities

I think you are thinking of a newstand called Shinder's at 7th Street and Hennepin Avenue. That is probably where you were and meets most of the criteria.

Perhaps a better suggestion would be "The Source" on the corner of Snelling Avenue and Larpentaur in St. Paul. HUGE gaming, comics, and old fantasy novels. Lots of mini's, mags and used gaming stuff. Saturday and Sunday are packed with gamers at the tables. Also carries collectable card games. Definetly the best FLGS in town, and not bad on the customer service front. What you don't find at Shinder's, you will find at the Source.

So be sure to get a list of what you are looking for, and I bet you can knock it out between the two locations.

There are actually a number of Shinder's stores. Not sure where you are staying, but I could offer some directions if need be.

What you are describing could also be Dreamhaven (But is going to be closing soon). Its in Dinkytown.

Across the street is an old theater (it is now a bike shop)

The place sells LOTS of old DnD Books. I remember the old RPG books, dont remember about the out of print novels, but I know they are there.

and finally, it is almost impossible to recognize from the outside.
As you walk in, you walk downstairs. The place is actually in a basement.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the info guys, that helped a lot!!

I've been using Mapquest to try and see where 7th Street and Hennepin Avenue exactly is, and it seems to be very likely that it is the shop I went to, those 4 years ago.

I'll only arrive in town on Saturday night, to leave on Tuesday evening again (and I have to be at the Convention Center on Monday and Tuesday, and on Sunday too most likely).

That of course means I won't have much time to go anywhere.

I would like to know if any of the shops mentioned are open on Sunday and until what time they are open on Sunday and Monday.

I couldn't find where Dinkytown is and I can't remember the shop I was at was below ground (I might have been though). If that is nearby (if anyone can tell me) I will certainly go there as well.

I guess the shop in St. Paul isn't too close by, how far would that be (by bus I guess).

For distance reference, I'm staying one block from the Convention Center this time.

I bet I'll be running like crazy all over the place to get my books before I fly back to The Netherlands. ;-)

Dreamhaven's closing?!?!? When I was there a few years back, they had two locations; is one going to remain open? We'll be going up there to visit my brother-in-law soon, and going to Dreamhaven was the only thing I was loooking forward to going to while we were up there...

Corran: Walk over to Shinder's when you get a break. It's still on the corner of 7th & Hennipen, so you can't miss it. The game stuff is in the far corner, behind the comics and paperbacks, and do check the used/overstocked stuff before you go for cheap stuff.
