Life expectancy for a Tiefling....

I'd say DM choice.

Some DMs will say "A tiefling has only a small fraction of the blood of an outsider in him or her- and is mostly human, so dies of old age like most humans.."

Others will say "A tiefling is an outsider, native or not, and as such has no age chart in any book.. and most outsiders are immortal. So a tiefling is too."

Personally, I prefer the latter. The majority of tieflings in my imaginary world are slain as children.. I mean really, your average peasant family or priest-likely-to-be-present-in-birthing will not permit a child with red skin, fangs, cats eyes, horns, goats legs, etc, to live- be it acute understanding of the planes or simple superstition. That most of them don't survive childhood balances the immortality of the fraction that do.

Tieflings have such a low, diluted portion of fiendish or celestial blood that they're not immortal by any stretch of the imagination. Human life span, or at most half-elven or maybe elven.

Now of course if a given DM cares to modify this for their campaign setting, that onus is on them. *shrug* But as far as tieflings and aasimar, and the other plane-touched races go, they've always had a normal human or slightly expanded lifespan in Planescape where they really got developed.

www.planewalker.com might have the specifics for the agespan of tieflings on the race chapter pdf they have released as a preview of planescape 3e.

According to Races of Faerun, Tieflings (as well as other planetouched) have the same life expectancy as humans.

I'd imagine this applies to non-FR tieflings as well.

why or why isn't tiefling a template? what happens when a halfling get knocked up by a devil? well... i guess that would be a half-fiend halfling, but what about the descendents?

I'm really not sure why we don't have a tiefling/aasimar/genasi set of templates yet, considering we seem to get a few more planetouched with each monster book WotC puts out. On the other hand, Drowdude put together some wonderful templates a long while ago. You can find 'em here. <Blatant plug> It's one of the links in my "Favorite House Rules" thread linked from my sig. ;)</Blatant plug>

In Planescape, it gave tiefling average ages as being slightly lower than humans, probably on the basis that they tend not to live very pleasant lives and thus tend to die younger, as well as the fact that the fiend blood mix made them more fragile and sickly than normal humans.

So what would the life expectancy be for a half-elemental be? The base race or a longer life expectancy due to their half-elemental nature? The same question would apply to the half-celestials and fiends, unless I missed something in the books. :)
