D&D 5E Leomund's Tiny Hut Question

I was wondering if Leomund's Tiny Hut, if cast just before a battle with a green dragon, would be a respite spot for the cleric to heal party members and to escape the poisonous breath weapon?

The wizard who cast it does need to stay in the hut, but, he and the cleric will hopefully have buffed everyone first before going in.

I'm hoping that by the time they need to emerge, they can go on the offensive. Then, if the poop hits the fan again, cast the Hut again (Wizard has two scrolls of Leomund's Tiny Hut, the only magic items the party has received at 10th level, that he gave out even though the wizard already has the spell: Our DM is somewhat stingy and sadistic. I'm hoping to turn that against him...)

Our party:
Paladin
Ranger
Barbarians X 2
Wizard
Cleric

The hut is a dome - it doesn't create a floor. So all the dragon has to do is burrow underneath.

In addition, the caster has to stay inside the hut which would effectively shut down the wizard since he can't affect anything outside the hut.

So probably not the best use of the spell.

I didn't think of the burrowing. As far as the caster goes, meh casts buffs mainly. So I'm thinking its a good spot to ride out battle after casting all of the buffs he can. He can help the cleric heal from inside (since the cleric can come and go) and when it's time to come out, he can leave, cast more buffs and possibly one or two offensive spells, then use the second scroll and repeat the process.

But overall, what I am hoping is that the dome will be a spot the other party members can run to to avoid the poison breath weapon. They will be in a confined area as well. The dragon is in a cave.

Just note that the csting time of the spell is 1 minute. That's a lot of rounds in a combat. It last 8 hours, so casting before is much preferred.

In the DMG Errata they changed casting from scrolls to however long the spell takes instead of 1 action:

Spell Scroll (p. 200).
Starting with its second sentence, the first paragraph now reads as follows: “If the spell is on your class’s spell list, you can read the scroll and cast its spell with-out providing any material components. Otherwise, the scroll is unintelligible. Casting the spell by reading the scroll requires the spell’s normal casting time. Once the spell is cast, the words on the scroll fade, and it crumbles to dust. If the casting is interrupted, the scroll is not lost.”

As people have noted there are some drawbacks, but yes on the whole this works as you suggest.

Green dragons don't have a burrow speed so whether or not it can undermine the hut would be up to the discretion of the DM. If the cave is solid rock I'd say not likely or at least a few rounds to bash up the rock (maybe give the rock an AC, HP and DR so it is dramatic). If it is softer surfaces, one to two rounds.

That whole 1 minute casting time makes it so it will only work if they can lure the dragon to them somehow. Dragons are pretty clever and will avoid fighting on ground that is not to their advantage.

It should work, but most dragons would be smart enough to figure out what's going on and just leave, coming back when the situation is more to their advantage.

Or ready actions. Or bury the hut with a cave in. Position himself to get opportunity attacks, etc. Depending on the dragon's age, he may have other options.

Biggest issue is probably casting time.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the thoughts. We are going to have a brief moment, before initiative is rolled. So I think I will cast Leomund's Tiny Hut then. After that, well, we'll see...

Thanks again!
