D&D 5E Leadership ability

I'm trying to wrap my head around the leadership ability:
Leadership (Recharges after a Short or Long Rest). For 1 minute, the hobgoblin can utter a special command or warning whenever a nonhostile creature that it can see within 30 feet of it makes an attack roll or a saving throw. The creature can add a d4 to its roll provided it can hear and understand the hobgoblin. A creature can benefit from only one Leadership die at a time. This effect ends if the hobgoblin is incapacitated.

Is this basically a bless spell for everyone in the leader's squad within 30ft?

It has the same effect (more or less), but is non-magical. It can't be dispelled or have concentration broken (except by Incapacitation), but has a language requirement and only effects those that are currently within 30' (as opposed to Bless, which IIRC allows the target to leave the range once cast). Otherwise, yes this is a martial "super bless" spell.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call it "super" bless given that bless effects all applicable rolls while leadership effects only one. It's more like a midpoint between bless and bardic inspiration.

Edit: Nope nevermind, I read that wrong.

Seems, mechanically comparable, has multiple restrictions on both the user and subjects rather than just concentration. Can't be dispelled, but silence or deafness (or just loud enough ambient noise) will shut it down.

Illustrates how you don't need magic to do everything.
