Do large creatures wielding correctly-sized weapons do more damage in 2nd edition? I'm thinking specifically about a dark sun half giant.

Thanks!

Learned a bit more

OK,
So I've figured out a few minor things. Perhaps someone can fill in the rest (if the rules exist at all).
  • Can a large creature use a two-handed sword (large weapon) in one hand? A lance?
  • Are there rules for the damage of huge weapons in 2nd edition?
I'm assuming that given Dark Sun has large PCs these issues have come up more than once...

Thanks,
Mark

I don't think 2e has weapon size rules per se at all.

If you look at the damage and weapons of giants, you'll find that they tend to be a little all over the place...

I'd just stick with normal weapons barring anything that has things detailed otherwise.

Well, 2e does have S, M & L weapons in the PHB. So I'm pretty sure a large creature can wield a large weapon in one hand. But, as you say, there seems to be no rules for huge weapons...

Bah.

I'm finding a lot of the 2e rules to be written really poorly. Psionist's handbook in particular has a massive lack of clarity in places. It's as if they didn't play test or edit.

Bah I say.

Yes, No, depends on their strength. I don't believe they automatically just deal more damage because they are bigger, but someone who is stronger gets a bigger bonus to their damage.

So a Giant that wields a two handed sword in one hand (because they are large and can wield it in one hand) could be using it sort of like a longsword...but it's a two handed sword for everyone else. However, it still does the two-handed sword damage.

Bonus damage will come from their strength (so even if they are larger, if they only have a 10 STR...their size may actually not be a benefit to them) and training (are they a fighter, did they specialize in a weapon).

Like in our world, take someone wielding a rifle, does that rifle do more damage simply because Joe is larger then Bob...or is dependant upon how accurate and how well they can shoot?

Or, in the case of melee, even if Joe is taller and larger than Bob...if he's a wimp and can't really swing the axe that hard, but short little Bob can dead lift 1000 lbs over his head and has used an axe all his life, who do you think will be able to chop the pile of firewood quicker.

That is if I understand your question correctly.

When I DM'd Dark Sun in 2e, I allowed half-giants to use 2H weapons in one hand, and it worked for us. I don't recall if the question of how much damage would a half-giant-sized 2H weapon do ever came up.
