Kythons?

As it'll be a little while, yet, before I convert my campaign to 5e...

Does anyone have a solid Pathfiner conversion of the kythons (from BoVD)? Or, failing that, at least a solid 3-to-3.5 conversion? :heh:

I don't recall ever coming across a Pathfinder version of the Kythons or a 3.5 upgrade. AFAIK there isn't an official 3.5 version of them since the Book of Vile Darkness never got an WotC Web Enhancement to upgrade it to 3.5.

Doing it for the CC is outside our remit, since the Creature Catalog is about converting monsters to 3E that never got an official edition-upgrade, and the Kython started out 3E.

A "Homebrew" 3.5 update just to show what the numbers would look like ought to be OK, though. Something like:

Adult Kython (Medium Aberration; Hit Dice: 10d8+30 (75 hp); Init: +6; Speed: 30 ft. (6 squares); AC: 24 (+2 Dex, +12 natural) touch 12, flat-footed 22; Base Attack/Grapple: +7/+10; Attack: Bite +10 melee (3d6+3 plus poison); Full Attack: Bite +10 melee (3d6+3 plus poison) and 4 claws +9 melee (1d8+1); Space/Reach: 5 ft./ 5 ft.; Special Attacks: Kython weaponry, poison; Special Qualities: Blindsight 60 ft., immunities (acid, cold), resistances (electricity 20, fire 20); Saves: Fort +6, Ref +5, Will +9; Abilities: Str 17, Dex 15, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 11; Skills: Escape Artist +8, Hide +13, Listen +11, Move Silently +14; Feats: Combat Reflexes, Dodge, Multiattack (B), Improved Initiative (B), Power Attack, Weapon Focus (claw); CR: 5).

Poison (Ex): Bite, Fort DC 18; initial and secondary damage 1d6 Strength.
Skills: An adult kython has a +4 racial bonus to Hide, Listen and Move Silently checks.

I basically just added a few feats and gave it some racial bonuses to skills so its skills would match the original version.

Thanks lwns, that looks good.

Hopefully Mouseferatu will notice your conversion and get some use out of it.

Hmm, it's been a fair while since I looked at the Kythons. I vaguely remembered them as a Giger-esque Alien expy, but looking at the Book of Vile Darkness again I'm getting more of a whiff of Warhammer's Tyranids.

'Course Tyranids are a bit of an Alien expy too, so maybe it's more a second- or third-hand expy.

They definitely are Alien-esque I think that's why people liked them so much. I know that's the reason I did.

Well the Alienesque traits are fairly superficial, basically being weird carapace-skinned semi-humanoids with no eyes.

They don't have acid blood or that gestates-inside-a-living-host schtick, the latter of which I feel is necessary for a blatant Alien rip-off.

They do have four arms* and the ability to grow organic weaponry, which is far more, ah, reminiscent of the Tyranids.

*Now I know the Alien Queen has four arms, but she's a one-per-nest deal. Kythons get four arms as a standard feature as soon as they become adults.
