Krull

Terminator's still in development (hopefully up within a week or so). In the mean time, here's something else to keep you busy:

Krull!

That's right. Krull. You remember Krull, right? The five-bladed thingy. That's right. The throwing spike blades that you immediately went home and tried to create with steak knives, a Frisbee, and glue. My parents were thrilled...

What, you didn't do that? Well now you can! Just visit the Freebies section of my web site at: http://www.retromud.org/talien. It's listed there. It's one of a series of movie-inspired settings/adventures that I'm updating to the D20 system.

Enjoy!

So, how would you do a krull setting? It was fantasy, but the actually world that was being invaded was not well defined. Then there was the invading force and it pretty cool. The movie was more about an event and I think it would be hard to play it with anything except the specific event. I think that was one of Dragon Lance's biggest problems.

D'oh!

I fixed the link, stray period snuck in there.

The rules are essentially to play the events in the movie. More intriguing is using the Beast and its Slayers as an invasion in an established campaign world. The science fiction theme of the Beast lends itself nicely to Spelljammer or Dragonstar.

Try again, I edited the link above.

Revision

After another look at the Krull .pdf, I cleaned it up and added more statistics. There were some valid criticisms posted to the front page of Enworld when it was announced (like railroading the PCs). Of course, this is more of an adventure outline than an actual adventure, so I make no apologies for the content being sparse. But on the other hand, there were some errors that carried over from 2nd Edition which crept in (like the 0 hit points = unconscious). I've also rewritten the adventure scenarios so that it's more clear that the PCs do not have to be railroaded from plot point to plot point.

There's still some cleaning up to do, but I'll get to that later.

Here is something odd: This is from the www.imdb.com page on the movie. http://us.imdb.com/Title?0085811

Also Known As:
Dragons of Krull (1983)
Dungeons and Dragons (1983/II)
Dungeons of Krull, The (1983)
Krull: Invaders of the Black Fortress (1983)

does anyone know why it was also called Dungeons and Dragons?

I always feel guilty when I watch this movie, but I loved the soundtrack (long since lost now) and used it in my very first DnD game (along with Metallica).

It's a good question. My understanding is that the title was used in countries other than the U.S. Precisely why, I'm at a loss to say -- especially since there's nary a dungeon nor a dragon in the movie.

Anyone know?
