Just where did the whole "Pirate versus Ninja" phenomenan begin?

For the last few years, "Pirate versus Ninja" humor has been very popular on the internet, but I've had trouble trying to find out just where the whole trend started at. I've asked around, but every person I've asked seems to give me a different answer. So anybody know where "Pirate vs Ninja" started?

That was the first I'd seen of it, quite a few years ago. I'm not terribly sure though, so take it for what it's worth.

I don't know what "humor" you're talking about. Pirates and ninjas have been mortal foes since the mid-1600's. If you think that a bloody feud between two noble peoples that stretches back for hundreds of years is funny, then I pity you.

There's really no "vs", it's just the Pirates trying to make themselves seem to be more then they are. Pathetic really, everyone with a lick of common sense knows that pirates are just loser cry babys who, combined, couldn't match up to a single ninja.

Makes you you want to throw a pitty party for them pirates, don't it?

I mean if anything says it, the fact that not even dinousaurs can make pirates cool says it all for you.

Over the few last years I've seen several movies where ninjas were on a docked ship as if they ran it. maybe it started there?

Either that or the Ninjas need a better PR rep. I mean- is pirates the best you could do?

Forget Pirate vs. Ninja, what about Shark vs. Crocodile? Or Astronaut vs. Caveman?
