If you're familiar with the 1980s movie, Revenge of the Nerds, you know that the following three things are true:

1. Anthony Edwards? Anthony Edwards!

2. Woah .... yeah ... those 80s movies didn't age well. I mean ... ouch. Just brutal.

3. Jocks and nerds don't mix. Or, to put it in terms Ogre might have understood .... NERDS!

The reason I bring this up is that there used to be a line demarcating the province of the nerd/geek (comic books, D&D, science fiction, etc.) from the rest of polite society. But, thanks to our outstanding secret plan to take over Hollywood, the Fortune 500, Silicon Valley, and popular culture, WE RULE THE WORLD! Um, wait, don't tell anyone about the secret plan. I didn't say that.

Ahem. Anyway, the one are where there has still been, traditionally, some separation is the traditional battleground- JOCKS and NERDS. Of course, that's no longer the case, is it? With the rise of statistics and fantasy sports and so on, we see that even these traditional enemies have a lot in common.

Which brings us to today's burning question for D&D players- do you know about, or care about, the NFL Draft? I was wondering, because this has probably been the single hottest topic of conversation in my office the last couple of weeks; I was wondering if the big tent of D&D has expanded to include all, or if there is still some traditional disdain for the sports.

So, a poll! Finding out if the good people of enworld who (1) are familiar with D&D also (2) are interested in the NFL Draft.

For my charity one-shot a couple months ago the two celeb guests were a pro wrestler and the head coach of the local soccer team, a former centerback (if you don't know soccer they are generally considered to be big dumb jocks).

Since my professional life pre-pandemic was in sports I did get to know players' interests beyond their sport, and I can tell you there is a bank of nerds out there no longer trying to hide it. The most famous of these is probably Cassius Marsh, a linebacker whose major non-sports endorsement deal is with Seattle gaming store Card Kingdom/Mox.

Also, everyone should put sports in their D&D.

That charity one-shot

I've always been a nerd and a jock, but I have no interest in the draft (with USA football I really only care about college, not pro).

There are many professional athletes who play D&D- most famously, all-galaxy NBA player Tim Duncan.

But also in the NFL! Travis Fredrick (Cowboys center, retired 2020) plays D&D.

I recall some years ago that there were a bunch of Packers that played Catan. But what else is there to do in Green Bay other than drink beer and eat cheese curds?

I love What we do in the shadows and that is a pretty good episode.
I love the movie, but I actually haven’t seen the show 😅

I just find the idea of talking about Sports like it’s a Prestige TV series amusing, and I thought Superb Owl would be a good pun.

...Actually, i suppose Football, Baseball, Hockey, etc. would all be series within the Sports Extended Universe.

And I guess Football was a popular British series that got an American remake? Though from what I understand it’s more of a gritty reimagining of Rugby, not sure why they used the name of a completely different show...
