Javelin of Lightning

A Javelin of Lightning is considered a +1 weapon in terms of how many enhancments you can give it right? What happens if you put Returning on one? Does it not come back because it became a lightning bolt? Do you think I could make a different version so they do come back? What about increasing the damage? Higher caster level? How much more money?

No.

You can't.

I think making it persistant (not being destroyed by use) would multipyl its costr by fifty. Increase it even more for the returning effect.

This is likely a linear effect, so double cost should double the damage (max 10d6).

How much would a Permanent Returning Javelin of Lightning that does 10d6 damage cost? 100 times as much?(75,100 gp)

Well, for a javelin with 10d6 damage, you'd need a 10th level wizard casting lightning into it.

Returning is a +1 modifyier isn't it?

So, base price is Masterwork (300) + weapon cost (5 gp?) + bonus squared * 2000 (8000). So a Returning +1 Javelin would cost roughly 8300.

Now, that 10d6 lightning bit....

If it's use activated (ie, you throw it, it zaps people) then you're looking at spell level (3rd) * caster level (10th) * 2000...basically 60,000...

So, for roughly 68,300 gp, you could probably buy one. Your DM may or may not give it to you for that price.

A permanent returning javelin of lightning might be interesting, especially if it's still in lightning bolt form when it returns to the user. Otherwise, what you're describing is essentially a use-activated 10d6 lightning bolt item, and these would cost 3 x 10 x 2000 = 60,000 gp. Weapon enchantments also seem to cost double what they would otherwise (cf the blurring and displacement abilities in OA), so that becomes 120,000 gp. But for you, my friend, only 100,000 gp.

You think you could do that with Energy Substitution so you could have 1 Permanent Returning Javelin of Lightning Bolt, 1 Permanent Returning Javelin of Fire Bolt, 1 Permanent Returning Javelin of Acid Bolt, 1 Permanent Returning Javelin of Frost Bolt, and 1 Permanent Returning Javelin of Sonic Bolt? And how about a Permanent Returning Javelin of Force, and you have it be like an altered Magic Missile that's just one big lance/spear/javelin of force. Then get 6 attacks a round and.....Voila!

Only if you want to be the butt of jokes about having a golfbag of weapons, or being careful not to bend over, or not running too fast.

The cost would be a slightly reduced likelihood of being the butt of jokes about having a golfbag of weapons, or being careful not to bend over, or not running too fast. It would be a tragedy.
