Invisible Stalker Assassin

Hello all, a quick question.

Under 3.0 rules, what's the minimum number of rogue levels an invisible stalker has to take in order to be able to get into the Assassin PrC? (Can the invisible stalker even take levels? I'm pretty sure it can).

Going by the 'letter of the rules', 5 levels, because hide is not an invisible stalker skill, and he needs 8 ranks.

Going by the spirit of the rules, I'd say none. An invisible stalker has no need of either hide nor disguse ranks due to its 'appearance'.

But that's just my humble opinion.

If you give it Hide as a racial class skill then zero, other wise one rogue level should do to get your 8 ranks of Hide. Move Silently is a racial class skill so that is not a problem and Disguise only requires 4 ranks so you can get that as a cross class skill. This is assuming that your are not dropping the Invisible Stalker's 8 racial HD.

I do believe that the letter of the rules say that maximum skill rank is based on character level not class level. Which in this case should, if I am not mistaken, include the Invisible Stalker's racial HD.

I know that's true in 3.5, I can't recall seeing that in 3.0, as they made no real distinction about racial HD counting.... mind you, I never really looked it up before...

Does it apply even if the Death Attack is not an Invisible Stalker ability?

Either in the description of the feat or in a Sage Advice column from Dragon is says that it works on a wide variety of things like the monk's stunning attack, a dragon's breath weapon, or an assassain's death attack, etc.

Just a quick note: if there's a wizard in that party, does (s)he have Arcane Sight via Permanency? If yes, then your Stalker will need to use his Hide skill to approach the party undetected...
