Incantatrix metamagic spell trigger?

0-hr

Starship Cartographer
The Incantatrix PrC (Players Guide to Faerun, pp. 61) has the Metamagic Spell Trigger ability (Su):

"gains the ability to apply a metamagic feat...to the effect of a spell trigger item. ... expends a number of additional charages from the item equal to the number of effective spell levels the feat would add to a spell."

Can multiple metamagic feats be employed at the same time with this?

If so, it seems that an Incantatrix could take a Wand of Fireball and use Energy Admixture, Quicken, Twin, Maximize, & Empower all at once, by using up like 18 charges. It's expensive, but the damage output seems a bit extreme.

Though it is not entirely clear, the wording seems to suggest, that you can only apply one feat at a time.

I've always been quite fond of seeing a diving Incantatrix with a wand of magic missles in each hand firing them both rapid-fire-style (one quickened, the other as normal). :p

The wording of the Trigger ability doesn't refer to multiple metamgic feat usage, though really, who would want to do that any way? Egads, way too much cost for the benefit, but in the occasional do or die situation it can be great fun to make use of.

Vote #3 for only one metamagic feat at a time. Note that the ability description says:

1) "The incantatrix gains the ability to apply a metamagic feat she possesses..."

2) "Using metamagic spell trigger expends a number of additional charges... equal to the number of effective spell levels that the metamagic feat would add..."

3) The examples refer to an incantatrix being able to apply Quicken, OR Empower, OR Silent, not more than one.

You might also take the middle road. Allow the Incantatrix to stack multiple metamagic effects, but they can't create an effect of a higher level spell slot than they can create.

Ex: For a Quickened Empowered Magic Missile, the Incantatrix would need to be capable of casting 7th level spells.

Sadly, a wand takes a standard action to activate... so a 'quickened' spell doesn't actually change that..

Or at least, that's what hypersmurf convinced me of :)

I'm still seeking some way to cast 2 spells in one round...

As for the stacking - why not? The wand has 50 charges max. in 18 bursts, that's less than 5 of those super balls of fire...

Is the damage from the one fireball equivalent to that from 18 normals?

Somehow I doubt it.

If you can somehow get an Int and Dex of 15+ apiece, manage to grow a second head, and gain at least three natural attacks, there's Multivoice from Savage Species. It it allows you to cast two spells, two spell-like abilities, or one of each of those each round. It has good number of requirements though.

Well, it explicitly mentions Quicken Spell, however, which would be rather pointless, if the use of the feat would not change the activation time. ;)

Casting a spell is also a standard action (as per the PHB).
Casting a quickened spell is a free action (not for a sorcerer, mind you).
Casting a quickened spell from a wand via Metamagic Spell Trigger is just the same.

It also allows to cast a spell with a level higher than 4 from a wand, which is normally impossible. ;)

Why? Because it changes the "normal" rules for wands!

Arcane Preparation or Metamagic Spell Trigger (see above) or Instant Metamagic.
Of course, shapechanging into a Choker or polymorphing into one with Assume Supernatural Ability (Quickness) would also work.

Or simply be a Psion, then you can manifest three powers each turn without such hindrances. :p
