Improved Critical

Can we choose a ranged weapon, like Mighty Composite longbow, with improved Critical? What will be the critical range if I use Keen arrows with my longbow? does it stack or overlap?

thanks

You can apply Improved Critical to any weapon type. It stacks with the keen enchantment, but in sort of a weird way. Both double your threat range, but when something like a threat range is doubled twice, it becomes tripled -- here "double x" means "increase x by its original amount." So if you have Improved Critical in the composite longbow and you fire keen arrows, you have a crit of 18-20/x3. A keen scimitar used with Improved Critical has a crit of 12-20/x2.

We've seen several characters in our games with Improved Critical on their bows and crossbows (crossbows get significantly more criticals... but a bow critical coming from a sniper specialist is a VERY ugly thing... watched the party Paladin get taken down in two shots the other night).

So I guess what I'm saying is... "Yes".

What Varius & Crothian said! Still, there is indeed an equivalent to keen - for bludgeoning weapons! :D It's a spell in Magic of Faerun, IIRC.

There should of been one from the begining. They were just trying to keep the man with a club down. But the practitioners of the bludgeoning arts finally won a small victory and gained the power of keen for their weapons, at least in the FR.
