I need a good aligned goblin god

Lwaxy

Cute but dangerous
As the gods in the "Goblins of Golarion" are of evil nature, I'll need to make up a new god for 1 or 2 PCs who want to start out with "We be Goblins" and then plan to join my Company of Chaos. They can't stay evil aligned thanks to the nature of the game (at least not both of them).

So I was thinking... maybe a chaotic good god not much popular and usually ignored by the mainstream goblins. Any idea for domains or ties to the goblins?

I'm currently drawing a blank and they would like to start this Friday.

Why not just use an aspect of an existing good god? Milani could surely find cause with good goblins, being a patron of the oppressed (which any good goblin surely would be in their society).

Do you really need a good deity just to justify a good aligned goblin? Really, I would just write in "chaotic good" under alignment on the character sheet and consider that good enough. These good goblins could be outcasts from goblin society, perhaps they worship a good, non-goblin deity. In the end, they are PCs which are always exceptions to the alignment restrictions of any race.

Not to dig up Drizz't and the Drow, but Drizz't didn't need a good drow deity to justify being a good ranger, it was personal choice, which is what it would be for a goblin PC that wanted a good alignment. It should be no big deal to play one.

Maybe the goblin could worship the god of another race?

I vaguely recall a goblin goddess of fertility called Vershnot or something like that in a 3rd party d20 book. I also think TSR had a chaotic neutral goblinoid goddess of motherhood...maybe it was another monstrous race, but maybe a wiki will confirm my memory.

Non-evil goblin gods are more fun than a non-religious goblin or just adapting an existing god! And fun is the entire reason to play a goblin to begin with.

With that, here are 13 non-evil goblin gods for your consideration:

Anavatic - The bow-legged god of riders
Cantick - The large-mouthed god of song
Celus - The unseen god of hiding from danger (there is no evidence this god actually exists)
Doluf Sku - The blood-dripping hunter of dogs
Flockus - The long-taloned god of getting out food that was stuck between your teeth
Fugus - The hare-god of escaping pursuit
Ixip - The bright-eyed god of extreme cleverness
Morroklep - He Who Steals Babies
Mungair - The golden god who hides treasures in worshippers' nostrils
Radeer - The many-fingered god of relief from painful rashes
Siphonapterus - The patchy-furred god of protection from fleas
Solomonus - The shadowy god of goblins who walk alone from their tribes
Vermee - The limbless goblin god of nourishment discovered in the trash heaps of others

One of the PCs is supposed to be a cleric (we really badly need one), and as they grew up in goblin society it could be a bit difficult to explain a non-goblin god to have had any influence.

Although the adventure plays around Sandpoint, so it could have happened. Milani would indeed make perfect sense then. But the whole idea is to have extra flavor, and not just adapting non-Goblin stuff. I know those two players and they tend to play weird races totally in character.

Whizbang, I love your suggestions. Especially Celus :D Gave me a heap of ideas, especially as the wizard wannabe goblin could just pretend to be a cleric of Celus to explain his spells so no sane goblin would think him dabbling in reading and writing. Thanks. I'll let you know what comes of it.

A good goblin god?

Chezraak the Hopeful. In life Chezraak was the first good goblin to rise to the status of chieftain and convert an entire goblin nation to the service of goodness. On his home plane, the goblins remain chaotic good -- kindly woodland creatures prone to pranks -- to this very day. Upon his death, a great god of good promoted him to demigod status and he has working ever since to save his people from ravenous darkness that currently consumes them.

Chezraak's primary doctrine is "You are what you choose to be." Just because all of your tribe are bloodthirsty monsters doesn't mean you have to be. You can be greater and lead your people out of darkness and ignorance.

Unlike most goblin gods, the Hopeful encourages learning and his most frequent followers are goblin wizards. Still, for all his goodness, Chezraak does have a mean prankish streak. Several of Chezraak's most beloved celebrations involves tricking good friends, though always in a non-lethal manner. For a goblin, that's quite a step up.

Hope that helps,

You can be neutral and worship an evil god with no penalties provided alignment is one step within the God's alignment. Or that's how it USED to be. Don't know about Pathfinder... so Chaotic Neutral and True Neutral are possibilities under the Goblin Hero-Gods.

Also the Hobgoblin patron deity is Lawful Evil, so that allows for Lawful Neutral, too.

... but Good goblin deities? Nothing OFFICIAL as far as I know. ;)

Umm...

Also, Nivi Rhombodazzle is a True Neutral Gnome deity, so Neutral Good is possible. Lastly, Desna appears as a gnome in one of her manifestations and she is Chaotic Good.

Sooo, perhaps Desna chose to manifest herself as, or sent an agent that is a Deep gnome in order to teach these fledgling Goblins about her faith...? She's a goddess of Freedom and Luck, and those goblins would need both to escape from their wacky cousins...

Well, of the Four Goblin Hero-Gods...

Hadregash has goblin supremacy, slavery, and territory.
Venkelvore has famine, graves, and torture.
Zarongel has dog killing, fire, and mounted combat.
Zogmugot has drowning, flotsam, and scavenging.

If you consider the things that goblins like to do that are not represented here, singing definitely comes to mind. A forgotten goblin god should probably have singing as part of their portfolio.

They also despise horses, so maybe the forgotten goblin god should have something to do with horses...

And maybe most of all, they hate writing. But no real goblin god could possibly exist without being paranoid about writing, right? Maybe the forgotten goblin god reclaims writing by making songs out of the words...

So maybe... Gecklenardra, the neutral good goblin god of singing, wordscrambling, and horsefear. Rumoured to be an aspect of Milani. Or what that Milani is rumoured to be an aspect of Gecklenardra?

Odd as it is I play a goblin in one of our games. My goblin is CG and worships one of the other PC's after watching him fight. This works out very nice because it gives me a way to play my goblin in a party (kinda like a pet) but still it is very fun/funny.
