My level 7 Warlock acquired these magical socks that allow him to levitate an inch off the ground as long as he is wiggling his hands (Jazz Hands style). I was wondering what would be a great way to convince my DM to allow my character to deconstruct magical items like this and redesign them for other purposes.
For example, I want to convince my DM to allow my Warlock to remove the magical component from the socks and redesign them to fit a pair of gloves that instead of pushing things away (I think the socks output a force of magic to allow levitation,) they pull things towards him. In essence, I want to make gloves that provide Mage Hand on command or some other telekinetic ability.
If he says no, I still have these cool socks.
(My Warlock has been testing these socks to see their traits by jumping out of trees, floating over lakes, and a few other odd experiments so this isn't me talking but rather my character attempting to make the gloves)
