I HATE the term GISH

I hate the term....I have always hated it. The name sounds quite lame,
it inspires no fear, ohh stay away from him he is a "gish".
My contempt rises.
I truly wish people would stop calling their Fighter/Magic Users "Gish".
If you are playing a Githyanki, fine Gish away. Just know that if you played a Koa Toa Cleric/Thief you could of called yourself a Monitor, which is cool....or is a Koa Toa Cleric/Thief a Whip?....which is also a title of a position in Congress but still sounds cooler than "Gish".
Gish is the sound you make when you ate too many taquitos.
Gish is a spelling mistake when talking about the migration of salmon.

Funny part is, I suspect that those old timers, you know us people in our 30's all hate the term, and it is the 13 year olds on the net that think , Gish is cool.

How do you feel about the term?

I'm an old-timer, and I think it's a useful term.

There are other reason for an arcane caster to want a high BAB -- ray-based mage, for example. "Gish" describes both a concept and a play-style.

I've never heard it. But it sounds more like something delicious, than some fighter/mage. I am DMing lately though. So generally I roleplay the role of an hungry dragon for example. So I guess everyones a gish (good dish?) in my campaign.

These boards are the first time I have heard that term, and I agree, it sounds pretty lame. Even in reference to Githyanki I think it would sound bad (I thought they were referred to as Knights, but that could just be some nugget from 1st edition resurfacing).

I think of all the truly awful elements of the online D&D community jargon, gish ranks right up there near the top. I don't know who started it, nor who thought it was a good enough word to perpetuate its use when discussing fighter/mage characters, but those people should have taken one look at it and thought "this is a really stupid word" and moved on.

Cheers,
Cam
