D&D 5E I can use the Remarkable Athlete of Fighter in DEX SAVES ? Or only in Skills ? In Initiative ?

I believe the current ruling is skills yes, initiative yes, saves no, as saves are specifically called out as a save, versus an ability check.

However, given that its such a meh ability, I don't think giving them half bonus on Dex saves is a bad thing.

Saves are different than ability checks.

There are attacks, saves, and anything else is an ability check (skills, tool, use, initiative).

So with remarkable athlete you wouldn't add the bonus to your Dex Save, but you would add it to initiative checks.

I'd rule no -- ability checks are categorized separately from saving throws in the rules documents (Basic and PHB), and described as actions taken by a character; saving throws aren't a type of action, more of a non-passive ability-related defense.

And INITIATIVE ?

Under initiative section in the PHB page 189.
- "When combat starts, every participant makes a Dexterity check to determine their place in the initiative order."

So it works for initiative because, rolling for initiative is an ability check.

The bard ability Jack of All Trades works the same way.

I was confused about initiative at first (largely because ability checks as currently designed were a bit new to me). It's like a skill because it's an ability check but unlike a skill it's not something you can be proficient (half proficient, yes) in nor is it in the same place on most character sheets.

I guess if the Champion could stand it for 6 levels, he could take no dexterity or strength skills and he could then pick up a decent array of non-combat skills (well, four of them...) He'd end up with four skills at full proficiency, four at half, and initiative at half.
