How to Train Your Dragon

Saw it last weekend (out on previews here). It's a lot of fun, and isn't crammed with A-list voices and gags like other stuff from Dreamworks Animation. The flying scenes with the dragons are stunningly gorgeous; definitely the best part of the movie.

Highly recommended.

I hear they're charging US$20 for the 3-D version in the states? That's kinda ridiculous..

I was about to doubt that, but I check teh googles and yeah, you're right. Holy cow. NYC and LA could go even higher. They did say that the $20 was for 3D IMAX, not just 3D.

We watched How To Train Your Dragon in 2D, it was a great movie. 3D is fun, but except for Avatar, it doesn't really add to the movie experience.

That's a jump from the $15 I paid for the 3D IMAX Alice in Wonderland (and the same for Avatar, IIRC). I had planned on going but I think I will draw the line, though I bet there will be many who go thinking the regular price is in place then pay anyway since they are already there. The backlash on the Intrawebs should be a hoot. Let's try to get links here to the biggest dustups.

Well.... hell, I'm not going to play $12 + $5+ (the glasses used to be 3.50 locally) to watch a 3D film now. Thankfully, I have a collection of 3d glasses from each of the various 3D movies I watched during the last year so I'll see if I can use them next time I go to the movie.

So, thank you movie theaters! You might have killed 3-D TV. Congratutions for getting rid of a useless novelty technological fad. :D

The glasses would need to be on the same system. RealD glasses work only with Real3D, Dolby with Dolby etc.

But enough of the tech. How did folks find the movie?

The movie was totally awesome. The story was good, the animation was great - they continue to improve their craft with every movie.

We took our son to see How to Train Your Dragon and loved it. Very well done. No fat on the movie at all, with great voice performances, excellent animation and a tight, engaging plot.

My wife and I rented The Blind Side" the night before, and I found I liked HTYD much more.

Yikes! I saw it in 3d IMAX for $11.50; glad I don't live in NY or LA!

Words can hardly describe how much I loved this movie.

Sure, the plot was predictable and nothing new. Ditto the characters. But it was well done, and the animation was great.

The way that Toothless moved and all his subtle facial expressions were so unendingly adorable that I can't think of that movie without my eyes getting all big and shiny and saying "I WANT one!"
