How can wizard really be an elf's favored class?

Legend
Favored classes are kind of a reflection of a race's natural culture and heritage... or so I thought. But I got to thinking... a typical elf only has a 10 int (just like the avg states for any of the pcs races). So that means a 1st level wizard can't even use 1st level spells... and yet that is the elf's favored class.

Anyone think that's a little....weird?

well, the average stats in the MM give the elf warrior a 10Int, but one could easily place the 13 from strength there instead.

Same with Gnomes

Gnomes are favored class bard, yet they are no more charismatic than the other races.

The favored class of wizard for elves comes from the idea that elves are of a more magical nature than humans, although not in the way that there is any natural power or talent(which would make them favored class sorcerers). I can see wizardy as something elven children are taught at a young age and those that show aptitude(meaning higher Int) may continue on the path, while others go their own way.

That is at least the way I see it. If it would have been me, I'd probably have made their favored class sorcerer instead. I prefer my elves as something more fey than the general D&D elf.

Well, favoured class doesn't represent the most common class in that race, duzzit? Otherwise Commoner would be everyones favoured.

I think FavClas are supposed to be what the greatest characters and heroes of that race tend to be.

The "commoner stat block" is actually 3 10s and 3 11's. So presumably, those elves could use at least 1st level spells.

Yeah, but hoo boy they can toss around cantrips like NOBODY's buisness!

Elf fanboys claiming that elves should have more than 10 intelligence because of their long lifespans in 5... 4... 3... 2...

Don't be silly, the long life span would give them more wisdom. Ya know, thinking about elves as having lesswisdom before the weight of years catches up is a little scary...
