Help me build a quickling PC!

Hey, ENWorldites!

I am looking for some help building a quickling PC. I got the idea as I was trail-running this weekend that it would be cool to play a fey or halfling-like character who is dexterous and incredibly fast on his feet. His main strategy will be to be somewhere else when he is being attacked! I am thinking of the dodge/mobility/spring attack tree along with tumble skills. What class/race combos will maximize fast movement? Monk and Barbarian are the only core ones I can think of. Other good feats?

The latest quickling is in Tome of Horror. It will probably have a heafty ECL. The biggest problem is their movement. Also take into consideration is if the character were to take monk levels, which would increase his movement even more. Add in the Dervish PrC and you would have a deadly mobile character.

His size would be a problem because his weapon would be smaller, thus less damage than a larger size creature.

hmmm....

Try the Dervish in Complete Warrior or the Elocater in the Expanded Psionics Handbook. As for races, the halfling is the best call but I haven't seen the Quickling for 3.5 yet. A hornblade from FG Races would help with the small damage.Good Luck!

Quickling (Faen) is a Core race in Montes AU. No fast movement, but Run IIRC.

Stack barbarian and the Kalamar Infiltrator class on it, take a feat with +10 ft movement, take 2 Fighter levels (bbn2/ftr2/rest infiltrator)... and pick the feat chain mentioned above.

Dervish is a nice idea. Dash (Complete Warrior and MiniHB) gives another +5 movement.

Yeah, the quickling in Arcana Unearthed is pretty pathetic. They don't have even slightly faster movement, just run as a free feat. Woo hoo. :P

I suggest either making up a quickling race with your DM, or just making up some kind of trail runner ranger variant.

I have a Quickling (Faen) Cleric of Akadi (Air Elemental) in my latest campaign. We found a couple of feats that increase base speed that he picked. He ends up going pretty quick. Plus his role playing is really good, very nervous and caffeine crazy, always edgy and can't sit still.

We were going to create the (Tome of Horrors) Quickling ala Savage Species but since all the other PCs are just 1st level (Kobold, Fremlin and Goblins) it would take too long to get to cleric levels.

(and yes this is a bizarre group.... very bizarre)

These are all helpful ideas, guys, thanks! Raflar- would you mind mentioning the movement feats (and their book sources) for your faen character? Dash is the only one that I found; Run is (counterintuitively) not useful for my intent!

Sorry I was slightly mistaken, we used the following:
Arcana Unearthed pg 104 - Fleet of Foot Feat = +10 to land speed
&
Unearthed Arcana pg 89 - Traits - Quick
Benefit: Land speed increases by 10
Drawback: subtract 1 from your hitpoints at each level

Gave the little bugger a speed of 40 or 200 when running at top speed (x5) which if my math is correct that's 72 miles an hour.. although he can only run as long as his constitution score in rounds before he has to make checks... still that's pretty fast.

Hope this helps..

Man, this is PERFECT! Between the feats and class suggestions, using Faen, I can get my concept exactly. (Now, he might be a bit of a wimp, of course, but still fits my concept. LOL) Thanks, guys! :D
