D&D 5E Have we seen a list of backgrounds yet?

We've seen feats, races, classes and subclasses. Has there been a list of backgrounds released yet?

No word on the backgrounds, but from the ToC in the preview we can see there is room for eight backgrounds, and so far we know of seven: Acolyte, Criminal, Folk Hero, Hermit, Noble, Sage and Soldier. No idea on which is going to be the last one.

Urchin is the example background that Tika picks, so presumably is in, that's 10...

Backgrounds are one page as shown from several previews. TOC has backgrounds from 125 to 142, that 17 backgrounds by my count. 16 if pg125 is just explanation. How did you get 8?

The only preview I saw was the Hermit, and that did not get all the Background on one page.



Edit: Actually having looked at it again, I think we can be pretty sure that a Background will be approximately 1.5 pages, so around 11 in total in the PHB.

I am a bit more optimistic...

The Hermit and Soldier preview are incomplete, but aren't they missing only two tables (flaws and bonds)? If that's the case, it's more like 1 and 1/4 page per background in 18 pages, equals 14 backgrounds.

We even don't know if there's a picture for each... should there be a picture only every other background, there can fit 16 of them.

How many were there in the latest playtest packet? IIRC, they added Hermit, Outlander and Urchin (which might replace the Thug), and folded Spy under Thief (renamed Criminal). Maybe Jester also is folded under Entertainer? I hope they haven't removed anything, they were all cool! Folding is ok tho.

• Commoner (I suspect this has been upgraded to the more heroic sounding 'Folk Hero')
• Guide
• Guild Thief (folded into the broader 'Criminal')
• Jester
• Minstrel (seems obvious this has been folded into the broader 'Entertainer')
• Noble (retained)
• Priest (folded into the broader 'Acolyte')
• Sage (retained)
• Soldier (retained)
• Spy (made an alternate Background to 'Criminal')
• Thug

So that's 5 unaccounted for: Artisan, Bounty Hunter, Guide, Jester and Thug.
I suspect out of those, Jester will be folded onto Entertainer, the others we may well see in some form.
